LEWIS DETERMINED TO MAKE PRODUCER
By Ellwood J. Munger
E. J. Lewis is determined to make a producer out of his Huntington Beach well. Drilling has passed the 5100 mark and it is understood that the showings have not been particularly good so far. It will probably be necessary for Lewis to go very deep if he gets production at all.
The Mosler Special as an oil producing company has retired from the field and hereafter all Mosler Special properties will be handled under the name of The Petroleum Company. Niel Anderson will continue to look after the field management of the Petroleum Company. Anderson has made considerable success drilling deep wells and his work with the new and larger organization will be watched with the same interest.
The Republic Producers formerly the Republican Petroleum Company drilled an offset well to the Anaigaminated's Milley-Keek No. 42 and had the pleasure of bringing in a 1300 barrel well producing 27 gravity oil. There is a full degree difference in the gravity of the two wells, the Anaigaminated and the Republic, yet the two wells are side by side. The most remarkable thing is that the deep well, the well that should be producing the higher gravity oil is producing the lower. This is a case of the high being higher and the low being lower.
The Standard Oil Co., contributed the field's fourth well a 900 barrel producer on the Huntington A-13 property. A-13 was completed at 4500 feet and is making 28 gravity oil.
The San Jose Hills country north of Puente go its first set back in the oil world when the St Helena Petroleum
ARREST AGED NEGRO
PITTSBURGH, June 1, Charles Harris, 52, negro of Nashville, barely capted lynching on the outskirts of this city this morning after he attacked Miss Agnes Hickey, 30. He was captured an hour after the attack and while accrued of infuriated neighbors of the girl shouted "get tope and lynch him" two police leutenants and a squad of officers finally got the negro into a patrol wagon.
He is held in the Frankstown avenue police station, under heavy guard. His vicious positively identified him. Several other women in the Squirrel Hill section have been attacked by a negro recently and the police are seeking to ascertain if Harris was responsible for these attacks.
BROWNRIGG-KELLER
NO. 2 PASSES 6100
By Ellwood J. Munger
The Standard Oil Company's test wall of the northline of the Springs field Brownrigg-Keller No. 2 has passed the 6100 ft mark without showing any oil. At 6135 the well is showing a hard gray sand, a formation that is not encouraging. The Standard will continue the test well and exhaust every possibility for the production before considering abandonment. The return to production of the Standard Oil Company's Johnston No. 2 was deepened to 4770 and is making 32.6 gravity oil. Pacific Clay Pipe No. 2 set 41-2 at 5440 and when the cement is drilled out the results will be of special interest.
The rise to success of the White Star Oil Company has been one of the great outstanding features in the development of petroleum at Santa Fe.

The Standard Oil Co., contributed the field's fourth well at 900 barrel producer on the Huntington A-13 property. A-12 was completed at 4500 feet and is making 28 gravity oil.
The San Jose Hills country north of Ponce not its first set back in the oil world when the St. Helena Petroleum Co. completed a dry hole on the Garnier property. The test hole was first drilled to 4500 feet. Water trouble caused it to be plugged back to 3960. The well was put on a production test and failed to make either oil or water. A well will either pump oil or water, or a little of each. This well refused to pump anything.
With the Fullerton Oil Co.'s brickard well passed the 5000 mark the outlook for a field at Bandini is beginning to look rather slim. It is understood that aside from a little gas the well has never showed anything encouraging.
At 4945 the National Security Oil Company drilling a test well never Orange County Park claim to have struck an oil sand. As soon as some mechanical repairs can be made it is understood the well will be tried out.
Santa Monica is waiting anxiously the outcome of the test well known as the Sawtele-Santa Monica Drilling was concluded a few days ago at 4582 feet. Authoritative information on the well has it that the first sand was struck at 3940 feet and that it extended for a distance of 150 feet. When drilling was stopped the claim was made that the lower sand had been pierced for 175 or more feet. The claims were made by a man who knows oil when he sees it, and the results of the outcome of the test is being availed with great interest.
The Seal Beach Oil Co. quit drilling on its test well at 5154 and it is the intention to make a production try out soon. A 5% string of casing was set at 4516 and from this point to the bottom the Seal Beach Oil Co. hopes to have sufficient sand to make an oil well.
