Teach the children to love their country and impress upon them their responsibilities in keeping their country all that it should be—worthy of their pride and love. If there be evils and wrongs in the body politic—as there undoubtedly are—lead them to discern these evils and wrongs and to strive for their correction as they come to adult years. Educate the young into constructive reforms.

LAX TALK INFLUENCE IS BAD FOR YOUNG
Men and women of adult years exert a bad influence when they indulge in loose talk before children, in excising crime and the perpetrators thereof. How often one hears a man or woman say in the presence of children: "He deserved to be shot. I hope the person who did the shooting will go free!" And when some notorious criminal escapes prison, to express gratification and to voice the hope that the escaped one will not be recaptured.
These things, in and of themselves may seem light and trivial to the person who indulges in this species of talk. But the children take this talk very seriously in many instances, and are influenced by it to regard crime as a thing to reguard lightly and excuse. Beware the influence erected upon children. For the evil fruits thereof may return to sting you like adders.

S. Shipping Losing In Tonnage
American shipping carried in American boats declining deplorably. Losses have been in tonnage during the last two years. Offfigures on this point show that American are carrying only 39 per cent of this year's foreign trade.
Is disquieting and discouraging. Some definite and decisive should be done about something constructive should be instituted alive and to maintain shipping in American ships. Either under government auspices, or private arrangements, perhaps with some sectionable form of government aid, this systematically should seek to augment shipment under the American flag.

NEW YORK LETTER
BY LUCY JEANNE PRICE
New York, May 9th. The latest return to mashions of our grandparents is in the come of the old family album. According to York photographers—and in our eyes—monument to the past generations is no subject for amusement. It is quite the fact that it isn't usually of the red pinch nowadays but in all other ways it is the same old we used to know. The natural humanoe tested in how mother looked twenty years ago too strong to be overcome for more than two years, it seems. And with the past few years, the albums with all of one's friends and Pomeranians have been blooming once more on the library table.
In her youth, Mrs. Sarah Williams, of Rock-Avenue, Brooklyn, decided that she would not extend old age because she was the daughter of a seventh daughter. She expected this superstition-favored fact to for her the wonderful things that tradition seemed for it, but she insisted that it meant an unusual number of years for her. The other she died of pneumonia at the age of 118.
Superstitions are not always reliable, though. Cold-blooded courts refuse to recognize them as being so. Mrs Susan Heltwig dreamed of her brother-in-law had stolen $1,000 out of a strong box and had him arrested on the night of it. When she admitted that her dream fourth daughter of a seventh daughter. She told me where you live an' I'll take you home," said Constable Phim, I day, t'a stylishly rigged woman that broke her thigh, but she declined, sayin' get was too dull an' monotonous there.
