AUTO CLUB ISSUES HORNOLOGY LESSON "Hornitis" is the name given by officials of the Auto club of So. Cal., in a new spring malady which is apparently taking hold of the motorists of this section of the state. It is the direct result of the bite by the "Tooter Bug" and affects automobile drivers in a most peculiar and irritating way, say Club officials. Auto Club observers report that there is more unnecessary horn-honking in Southern California than in almost any other section of America. Perhaps it is because spring arrives here more glorious than in any other part of the world, or perhaps because the Tooter Bug thrives more luxuriously on California climate, but at tiny rate, the amount of unnecessary hornooting, shattering the languid air, is becoming intolerable according to complaints made by tourists of the motoring organization. Don't toot your horn just for the pleasure of hearing it honk: Don't try to accelerate the movement of traffic by punching the stuffing out of your horn button. These two admonitions are contained in a philanthropic request for the saving of car drums just issued by Automobile Club authorities. Ennis Increases His Display Space Adding to his stock of carburetor, marmeto, battery and other electrical parts, George H. Ennis of the Automotive Electric Co. now has a large variety than ever before. Some time ago Ennis arranged the smaller electrical system parts in glass cases, readily distinguishable, and this week he re-arranged his shelves so that the stock is displayed to better advantage. The company is an authorized station for the USL battery and the Autolite, Tillotson, Connecticut, Elsmann and Westinghouse electrical Are You Prepared For Camp and Road? Are you prepared for your camping trip? Prepared both in camp necessities and in a car that's in order and properly equipped? If you're not, C. J. Nenno is ready to meet the defect. When you get out on the road you won't have a repair shop to depend upon. Tool kits will be a necessity instead of a convenience. A motormeter likewise. Extra spark plugs may save no end of trouble. A pump will be an absolute essential. A spot light will reveal those boulders in the dark around the corner. And, as important as anything else, good tires will prevent a lot of bother. Nenno's is one of the largest accessories stores in the county. MANY TICKETS FOR CHAUTAUQUA SOLD Last minute reports on arrangements for the opening of the 1923 chautauqua season will be made tonight at a meeting of the general committee in the offices of Beebe & Harrison. Something very tangible in the way of progress is expected to be reported. The committee has been active in disposing of tickets, and today issued a final announcement to the public that the cut prices on season tickets will not apply after today. With a program which is undoubtedly the most varied and satisfactory offered in Anaheim, the committee feels certain of a most successful season. The seven days' show opens tomorrow evening with the great American drama "Turn to the Right," declared to be the finest play since "The Old Homestead" and "The Music Master" held the boards. The set-up work is simple; it requires only the turning of a hand crank on each side of the rear door of the house to let the sides down and the resulting area within is practically the same as in a fair sized ordinary room. In addition to these, a number of smaller, yet important, conveniences combine to make the Speed Wagon bungalow desirable in every way. RADIOLA SR. IS REMARKABLE SET The most popular radio set in the country is the Radiola, Senior, handled by Robert V. Jensen, distributor of the Prest-o-lite battery, Rayfield carburetor, and various brands of radio sets. Appropriate anywhere! In living room of city home, in farmhouse parlor, in wilderness camp in country store or metropolitan skyscraper, Radiola, Senior, fits unobtrusively into small space, yet is ready to bring in, at a moments notice, the programs from stations hundreds of miles away. Because of its surprising range, the owner of a Radiola Sr. can choose nightly from a score of broadcast programs and enjoy that which suits the taste and mood. Two important achievements included in Radiola Sr., have made it the most popular set in the country. The regenerative circuit which greatly multiplies strength of signals has been successfully applied to this set without complicating its adjustments. The use of Radiotron WD-11 eliminates heavy, expensive storage batteries, as this vacuum tube functions on a No. 6 dry cell battery obtainable anywhere. The wave length range is 190 to 500 meters. Radiola Sr., equipped with a Radiotron WD-11, a pair of sensitive head phones and complete instructions for installing and operating. FIRM TO TAKE ON RANCH IMPLEMENTS Planning to take on a line of ranch implements and heavy beardware, Knox & Merry will extend their business, which recently was moved to a big new building, 51 by 140, at 224 South Lemon-at. PENN VAC TIRE HEAVIEST MADE The Pennsylvania Vacuum Cup tire is heavier, size for size, than any other tire on the market. John Ruedy of John Ruedy & Son, local distributors, point out. The 32 by 4½ weighs 32 pounds and 14 ounces, compared with 26 pounds and seven ounces for another well known make of tire. 25 pounds and 14 ounces for a second, 20 pounds and seven ounces for a third, etc. That is, weight considered., the Penn is the cheapest tire on the market, although it sells at standard prices. And the quality is equal to that of any tire and superior to many made. The 32 by 4½ is of eight ply, an- 548 MAXWELLS ARE SHIPPED IN ONE DAY With a shipment of 548 Maxwell cars Saturday, April 21, all records of the Maxwell Motor Corporation for a single day's shipment were smashed, indicating that Maxwell has apparently reached maximum production several months in advance of what is generally considered peak season. Maxwell's history throughout the winter and spring has been one of continuous activity, and it is reported that orders have constantly remained well ahead of production. As production gradually mounted toward peak season requirements, demand likewise increased at an ever-growing rate, and even with the fulfillment of the present high schedules Maxwell's facilities to produce not able to cope with public demand, though it is believed that shipments of the size made on April 21 will bob a common occurrence for Maxwell from now on. Maxwell's increasing business of past months is well reflected in the quarterly statement of the company, that shows a net profit of over $1,000,000 for the period. With reference to the record shipment of April 21, it is also interesting to note that the days' output of 648 cars represents 16 more vehicles than were produced and sold by the old Maxwell-Briscoe Company in the first full year of manufacture. Other fact worth remembering, says Ruedy. There’s a Radiola for every purse Robert V. Jensen Carburetor and Ignition Works 242 E.
