BUICK THE CAR FOR LONG TRIPS Of the many Buick owners in Anaheim and vicinity there have been quite a number, says Art Steward of the Anaheim Auto Company, local Buick distributors, who report to the service department that they are going to take long tours to the East and other distant places of interest. Some have already started, many driving 1923 models. Those who are doing so say they feel safer in this car than in any car they ever drove and include to hop at some of the And it could not be otherwise. Steward continues, as every town of city of any size has a Buick agency, and where there is a Buick agney there is a stock of 1923 parts and a skilled mechanic to install them. One Buick owner driving a 1910 Buick six left on May 2 for the East and intends to stop at some of the large cities, between and including Minneapolis and Chicago, Detroit and Flint, Mich. This same car went east and back once before, gave perfect satisfaction and was surely in fine shape when it left Anaheim. The remarkable hill climbing powers of the Buick are well known to all owners of the valve-in-head car. Some girls are too poor to afford a maid and have to get along with mother. An efficiency expert suggests that all filth be saved for fertilizer. It's a good idea but what would people do for popular novels. FEDERAL AGENTS TO ENFORCE N. Y. LAW WASHINGTON, May 5—Strong reinforcements to the federal "dry" forces in New York will be rushed to that state if necessary to enforce the Volstead act. the federal prohibition office declared today following repeal of the New York State enforcement law. New York will be given the most careful attention and should state officials, mayors, sheriffs and police departments fail to uphold the federal constitution as they are required by oath to do; the government will step in with a firmer hand than has yet been exerted in that state." Assistant Prohibition Commissioner James E. Jones said. RE-READJUSTMENTS OF LIGHTS DELAYED There has been some response on the part of car owners to the warning of ignition service shops that headlights must be re-examined, on account of the new registration lates for 1923. The certificates issued when the old plate was on the car covers the old license only, declare West Bros. of the Autoelectric Maintenance Co., Los Angeles and Chestnut-sts. If lights are still in adjustment, a certificate will be issued free. If they are out of adjustment, the usual fee will be charged. Headlights, according to officials of the Auto Club of So. Cal. and others, still are not kept in adjustment as they should be, and continue to be a cause of accidents. DODGE BROTHERS COUPE You will realise, the moment you see this coupe, how perfectly it fulfills a very real need. It was designed and built by Dodge Brothers in response to that need—long-standing and often-expressed by people in all parts of the world. With Dodge Brothers chassis as a starting point, it only remained to create a coupe body which would unite the usual coupe refinements with greater lightness, hardihood and economy. The world now knows how this was accomplished. An entirely new precedent in closed car construction was established. The body is built of steel. Moreover, the deep comfortable seat is upholstered in genuine leather. The doors are exceptionally wide. The rear compartment will hold a small steamer trunk and other luggage. The enamel, baked on the steel at high temperature is readily restored, after hard usage, to its original lustre. It is being accepted as a new and forward-looking move in the marketing of automobiles. That it will benefit millions of families and have a most salutary effect upon the auto buying public goes almost without saying, as it places something of a new light upon motor car ownership wherein the purchaser is able to avail himself of this modern necessity. "For some time past Ford dealers have been selling cars and trucks upon what is known as the deferred payment plan in which the purchaser makes a substantial initial payment, secures his car and completes the payment for it in regular installments," says George Dunton, Local Ford dealer. "This has been and will continue to be of immense benefit to numerous auto buyers, whose means do not permit the full outlay for a car at the purchase time, but who can easily make the required regular payments." "Now comes the Ford Weekly Purchase Plan which will make it possible for additional millions to own and operate motor cars, as under the terms of the Plan as little as $5.00 will start anyone toward the ownership of a Ford car, Ford Truck or Fordson Tractor. This initial payment, as well as all subsequent payments, will be deposited to the customer's credit in a local bank and draw interest at the regular savings rate. "It extends to the whole family an opportunity to participate in the car purchase by permitting each member to contribute a small amount weekly to the Plan with the whole-some effect of incalculating thrift and also demonstrating the benefits to be received from regular and consistent accumulation of funds to spend for things desired." "The price reduction of Ford Cars and Trucks which made it more accessible." Dodge Watchword Is Dependability "Unqualified endorsement of Dodge Bros. cars on the part of hundreds of thousands of satisfied owners indicate that the life-long ideals of the manufacturers to produce an article of merit, carefully conceived and honestly built, maintaining dependability even at the sacrifice of profit, is being more extensively realized every day," says a prominent distributor according to information reaching Charley Mann, Anaheim Dodge, dealer. "In the words of Frederick J. Haynes, president of Dodge Bros., Detroit, remarking in a letter on the sturdy resistance of Dodge Bros. cars to the most grueling tests in all manner of daily service all over the world, we have always endeavored to build into each Dodge Bros. car all the service that we know how, and never has there been, or will there be, a thought of cost where service-ability is concerned. Dependability must be maintained at any price." You Can't Buy a GOOD Battery for Less Money than Willard Wood-Inspired Batteries IMPROVEMENTS MADE ON CADILLAC In addition to a gradual stepping up of production, which has been continuous since the first of the year, announcement has been made by the Cadillac Motor Car Company from time to time in the Type 62 These improvements are now universally incorporated in the cars in the hands of Cadillac distributors and dealers. In announcing these improvements A. U. Widman, Cadillac manager on manufacturing, states: "During the past nine years we have manufactured 150,000 V-type cars has not been a period during that time when we were not making improvements in the metallurgy, engineering design determined, it has been possible for us to concentrate all of our energies upon improvements and refinements. "The price reduction of Ford Cars and Trucks which went into effect last October, bringing them to the lowest level in the history of the Ford Motor Company, opened a market of unusual proportion and with the inauguration of The Ford Weekly Purchase Plan this market now becomes even more comprehensive," concludes Mr. Dunton. MOTOR SO SMOOTH, HUBBELL ARRESTED Sam Hubbell of Hubbell & Wimmer, Chandler and Cleveland distributors, nearly got "ginched" by J. C. Looney, City Marshall, at Brenna last Sunday because he didn't realize how fast his new Chandler was going. This Chandler with the new motor at 25 miles, the rate he was going, acts like 15 miles. The floor in front of the driver's seat remains cool, the engine doesn't get warm, water is put in only after a very long trip and oil never, until the crankcase is drained every 1500 miles or so. On a round trip between Anaheim and San Francisco, Hubbell never thinks putting in any oil. Hubbell—without mentioning the name of the car—tells of overhauling a car on the Mount Baldy grade, the reputation of which has been vaunted repeatedly as a hill-climber. 40 ATTEND MOTHER AND SON BANQUET The annual mother and son banquet of the/Anaheim Hi-Y club in the Y. Mr. C. A. building was attended by about 40. The banquet was prepared and served by the ladies of the Presbyterian church and the rooms were decorated for the occasion. Henry Hodges, president of the Hi-Y club acted as the toastmaster of the evening and called first upon Dana Newkirk who took as his topic, "An appreciation of Mother." Miss Florence Austin of the high school then gave some very pleasing numbers on the piano after which Mrs. T. H. Walker gave a "Toast to Our Sona." Mr. B. F. SHOOTS PAY ROLL BANDIT, NABS OTHER (By International News Service) NEW YORK, May 5—One unidentified bandit was killed and his partner, J. B. Wallace, 35, was captured in a running gun battle thru the heart of the wholesale district today after a daring payroll holdup committed in the Brooklyn Rapid Transit subway station entrance at Chambers street during the noon hour. Henry Hodges, president of the Hi-Y club acted as the toastmaster of the evening and called first upon Dana Newkirk who took as his topic, "An appreciation of Mother." Steelhead of the music department of the high school played some cornet solos accompanied by Miss Austin. Rev. Sam Gott, of the Baptist church gave the principle address of the evening and had as his subject, "Gratitude." He made a very strong appeal to the young men stating "that the best way to show gratitude to our mothers is by the loving services we show in our every day associations with them." A few minutes were taken by Henry Hodges and Mr. A. G. Coons, leader of the club, to explain more fully to the mothers the real purpose and work of the Hi-Y club. This club is composed of about 20 boys who are real leaders in the high school life and have as their club purpose," to create, maintain and extend throut out the school and community high standards of Christian character." He's just as proud of his Jordan as ever, after three or four years' service, and declares he's going to get a new enclosed model. The car he is driving now he purchased at the 1920 auto show here, he says. It was a specially built Jordan, and since then he has driven it 32,000 miles, including a trip to British Columbia, where he used it on a camping trip and pleasure trips. During all this time he has never had any mechanical trouble, that is, real engine trouble, and the costs of repairs have been very small indeed. Steele claims to know what good cars are. Previously he owned two well known makes of expensive car, and the Jordan, he declares, gives as good service as any car made. Stern also avers that his car right now is as good-looking as any in the county. He now is using his fifth set of which not only look well, but are holding up well. CHAS. A.
