SHERIFF SAVES MAN FROM STICKY COAT
(By International News Service)
SANTA ROSA, Calif., May 1—While a huge pot of tar boiled in a nearby cemetery, Sheriff John M. Boyes and one deputy succeeded early today in persuading a mob of 100 residents of the Cunningham district of Sonoma-co to permit the law to take its course in the case of rank Fisk, a chicken rancher, accused of making improper advances to little girls.
Bent on tarring and feathering the accused rancher, the crowd gathered in a cemetery. Sheriff Boyes had been tipped in advance and arrived there just in time.
The crowd dispersed and Fisk was brought to the county jail here where he was served with a warrant today charging an attempted statutory offense.
Accusations against Fisk have been made for some time. Three young girls ranging from 11 to 15 years of age, had informed their parents of his alleged actions. They charged that he had induced them to go bathing in a lagoon near his place. Sans bathing suits.

Ford Purchase Plan Extends Bank Policy
"Our decision to co-operate in the Ford Weekly Purchase Plan is simply in line with our general policy to extend every possible service to the citizens of this community." Wm. J. Siemann, President of the American Savings Bank, said today.
"It is an excellent means of promoting thrift, the thing most essential to financial success and the attainment of amititions.
"For several years now, banks generally have been conducting campaigns urging people to open Christmas savings; accounts and vacation savings accounts; and thousands of persons have done so. In many cases they started with small amounts the first year, but the second year their goal was higher until these savings have mounted into surprising figures.
"The automobile has become a necessity to modern times. It is essential to successful business and it is unequalled as a means of providing pleasure for the family."
"The effect of the plan is most wholesome. It is certain to promote a new feeling toward the automobile and will tend to create a greater regard for automobile ownership."
"So why not save to own an automobile, just as you do for a vacation or for Christmas? They are all pleasure giving adventures that cost little or no effort."

If there was any burglar, he was surely frightened away, but there was no trace of a burglar. When the cashier of the bank finally went in and stopped the alarm, he found nothing wrong with the wires. The cause of the alarm is a mystery.

WIFE, MAN, AFFINITY LIVE TOGETHER
Elina Kinnan (left) loves Fred Vanderloan, a locomotive engineer. So does Mrs. Rose Vanderloan (at right) wife of Fred, although she filed suit against him asking a divorce. Fred left Rose in St. Paul for Elina. Rose went to Chicago and obtained a job as waitress. Fred walked into the restaurant with Elina on the day they arrived in Chicago and nearly fainted when friend wife came up to take his order. Elina fell ill; Rose took her in, and fed her, nursed her, became her firmest friend, despite the fact that Elina is soon to present Fred with a child. When the divorce case reached the calendar, Fred told the judge he loved both women and asked what he should do. The women both love Fred so much that they admit each would take a third of the sentence if Fred were sent to jail for a year. The judge has taken thirty days to think over the case.
