STATE MAY LEAD IN CARS If California doesn't top New York limits in 1923 in motor vehicle registrations, it won't be because she didn't press the Empire commonwealth close last year. All kinds of statistics of last year's total have come out, many of them were mere estimates. Here's the official dope: California's total registration of all kinds of vehicles last year was 530,896, of which 874,239 were autos, 29,413 trucks and 17,244 motorcycles. New York's total was 1,072,239 or 751,070 auxes, 221,223 trucks, with motorcycles not reported. The other states follow with these approximate aggregates: Ohio, 87,934; Pennsylvania, 829,737; Illinois, 791,974; Michigan, 584,143, in spite of Detroit's being the great factory center; Texas, 554,957. Lynn Realty Co., put four of them on his handsome Cadillac sedan and is enthusiastic over them. Duckworth was driving in Los Angeles, and in front of him a sprinkling cart had just passed, leaving the pavement slippery. Other cars in front had skidled considerably. Duckworth applied the brakes a bit, but his car held as firm to the pavement as if it had been running on a track. Without criticising any other brand of tire, Duckworth said he preferred his Goodyears to all others. The output of solid tires decreased during Feb. as compared with Jan., but that of pneumatics increased, according to the Rubber Association of America in a report to the Bureau of Foreign and Domestic Commerce.
