10-YEAR-OLD BOY
DODGING POLICE
Fullerton police today reported they had obtained further trace of a 10 year old boy giving his name as Vanard Smith and his father's name as F. W. Smith of Lincoln-st., Fullerton, who yesterday was seen in the local Crown Stage office with a large roll of money, and who ran like a turkey when told that someone was coming to see him.
The boy had the previous day tried to lift a ticket from Fullerton to Anaheim, and the Fullerton agent refused to sell it without an order from his mother.
He then went to the motor transit Co., and bought a ticket to Anaheim. Here he bought one to Santa Ana to go to Orange county park. Yesterday he returned, saying he had been to the park, and bought several boxes of candy at the candy store of the stage office. In the meantime the Fullerton agent had called up Anaheim and told about the boy, and the Fullerton police on learning he was here came over to arrest him. But when asked to stay here, he ran up the street as fast as he could go. Police have not heard of him since.

LA PAYETTE, Ga., April 27—George Baker went to his death on the gallows today for the murder of Deputy Sheriff J. W. Morton. The trap was sprung in the Walker-co-jail at 11:54 o'clock.
Baker's body passed through the trap dor of the gallows and it swung between a picture of Bebe Daniels in a bathing suit and a photograph of Gloria Swanson, posted on the wall.
Before the trap was sprung Baker learned from a window in the death chamber and spoke to the crowd below. He appeared calm and composed and spoke in a cool clear voice:
"Good bye, boys, I'm going now. Don't get in any trouble. Always stay out of trouble. Tell the woman I was boarding with I will never forgot her. I am paying the penalty for murder for which I am not guilty. I committed no murder. Good bye, Huck, good lye son, farewell all."
Baker was the most composed of the little group at the gallows.

DUKE 'JOSHES' ROYAL BACHELOR BROTHER
By LUTHER HUSTON
(L. N. S. Staff Correspondent)
LONDON, April 27.—The Duke of York and his little Scotch bride, formerly Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, today settled down to a quiet and recluded honeymoon in their love nest at Polesden Lacey, near Dorking in Surrey.
This second marriage within the royal family has aroused further speculation over the intentions of the Prince of Wales, heir to the British throne. The prince is approaching 30 and as yet has shown no inclination toward matrimony.
At the wedding breakfast, the Prince of Wales was the "life of the party." "Your turn next," old chap exclaimed the duke to his older brother. The prince of Wales smiled broadly and shoo k his head emphatically in the negative.
The prince has gone to Belgium where he will unveil a war monument. His departure has caused some gossip of a possible romance between him and Princess Mary Josee, a daughter of King Albert of Belgium.

MAN QUIZZED ABOUT SPAMINATO DEATH
Fred C. Casolischio will be quiz-zed this afternoon by Sheriff Sam Jernigan, and Sheriff William I. Traeger and his men at the Los Angeles County Jail, to tell what he knows about Nuncio Spaminata, the Italian found hacked to death in a gulch between Fullerton and Northam station.
Casolischio apparently answers the description of one of the men who drove up to Spaminata's room in the 500 block North Grand avenue, Los Angeles, on the night of the same day that the slain man left the city and carried off all the latter's belongings. It is possible that he may have quarreled.
The two men occupied a small, light car, and one stayed at the wheel while the other entered the house.
Casolischio has not yet been identified as one of the two, but he will be questioned until all he knows, whatever that is, is ascertained. The quizzing began yesterday.
He is suspected of having been a friend of the murdered man, and if so, involved with him in the extensive bootlegging business which Spaminata carried on.
TWO FAMILIES SHOT BY UNKNOWN MEN
(By International News Service)
IDABEL, Okla., April 27.—John Tope, 45, was today lodged in the county jail in connection with the slaying of Tope's wife, their two small children and Mrs. Tope's parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Hamlin, and the probable fatal wounding of her six year old brother, near Haworth.
He denied all connection with the shooting, which, according to Sheriff Bryant, was done by three men.
Sheriff's posses and citizens are closing in on the other two and they will be arrested before night, Brayan predicted.
According to reports reaching here from Hamlin's farm, two men rode up to his home, called the family outside and began to shoot them down.
Hamlin fell, it is said, along with his wife and daughter, and Mrs. George Tope and her 10 year old son, and a five year old daughter of Mrs. Taupe.

MAY USE NAVY TO CHASE RUM RUNNERS
WASHINGTON, April 27. Believing that methods of the sternest kind are necessary to keep rum runners from landing contraband liquor on American shores, President Harding is favorably impressed with the plans if use is not. If navy to chase the liquor ships away, it was learned officially this afternoon.
If it is true that more boys are born after a war, it would seem to prove that they use very good judgment.
