COLUMBIA BRINGS
IN THIRD GUSHER
The Columbia property of the Petroleum Midway is proving a wonderful sand property. Two big wells have been on production for several weeks. This past week a third well has brought in, Columbia 2-1. At 5010 feet the third producer is making 1650 barrels, 24 gravity. Towards 4, at 5000 feet set a combination string and will be the Petroleum Midway's next producer.
The Shell Company put Ashton 3 back a 2500 barrel producer. Redrilling and cleaning out to 5020 feet resulted in the return of the 24 gravity producer. Ashton 2 stopped drilling at 5025 and is making preparations to go on production.
With the bringing in of a 700 barrel well by the Hub Oil Company at Torrence the field takes on a new aspect. The Hub producer now the largest in the field was completed on the Smith property at a depth of 3605 feet. The well is producing 18 gravity oil.
The Standard Oil company's Torrence No. 3 announced in the press last week ago a 1100 barrel well is doing 500 barrels, the product is running 25.6 gravity, and from the standpoint of quality and quantity it is the field's best well so far.
At La Mirada the Nevada-Ventura Oil Syndicate is drilling out the cement and going ahead. At 3938 a string of 8 I-4 was set, and the condition of the hole is the best for going ahead and making a deep test.
The Seal Beach Oil Company did not set the string of 8 I-4 as announced last week. A decision was reached on the part of the management to go ahead and find unmistakable showings if possible before the landing of pipe. At 4800 the formation is running in brown shale and streaks of mud. The hope of the Seal Beach field now seems to lie in the finding of a deep sand.
In my survey of the oil fields of Southern California this week I found a general slowing down of development work. The big operators are closing development work down and all properties owned outright and will confine drilling to proper drainage.

ARISTOCRATIC COW
An aristocratic cow has been purchased by supervisors. She has blood, stride, milk and many other things, all on account of her lineage. The board paid $750.
Here it is, according to the official record of Berylwood Stock Farm.
"Berylwood Fay Tritonia Lad."
Grandson of King Segis Alcartra Abbokerk, sire of nine 20-lb heifers. He is from a 30-lb (correct, it applies to butter fat richness) four year old and by the $50,000 bull, King Segis Poutiac Alcartra, sire of two 20-lb heifers.
"The sire is from a 30-lb cow with two 30-lb sisters."
"The dam, a twice 27-lb, heifer, is out of 30-lb cow and by a 1000-lb (applies to milk) son of Prince Gelsche Walker, sire of that famous producer, Miss Valley Mead DeKol Walker, a three times 1000-lb cow who has broken a world's record and several California State Records."

The Doctor Was Right
When the good old family doctor was asked about baking powders, he said:
"Use Royal. It is made from Cream of Tartar and is absolutely pure. You could dissolve a couple of teaspoons of Royal in water and drink it with benefit. That's a health test mighty few baking powders can meet."
The doctor was right.

SLOW-UP DRILLLING ON NORWALK ROAD
(With Oil Operators)
The feature of the Springs field for the week was the slowing up of drilling on the south side in the vicinity of Norwalk road. Ferdon-Vurillat's California Co-operative Syndicate 3-1 stopped drilling at 5250 and it is understood that the work will stand pending field developments. The Stewart-Anderson Corporation has also suspended and will await more encouraging outlooks. The Are-Bee Oil Syndicate's No. 1 still stands with a fishing job at 4845 and every effort to clean the hole and go ahead met with failure. The Are-Bee was making a splendid record drilling and doubtless by this time it would have had one of the deep test holes of the field down and something definite would have been proven. The Are-Bee is making a game fight to recover and its success awaited with great interest.
The Gilbert Petroleum Co. No. 1 getting close to 5100 feet and core sample are being carefully taken. To date the well has shown some indications of oil and the prediction for a producer has been placed at 5200 feet.
On the southeast section of the field attention is rivited upon Brady No. 1. Drilling is now at the 500 mark and core samples taken at 4980 and 4990 are indicative of encouragement. Brady 8 petroleum engineers are more hopeful for produc-
