Kelly was at the wheel of the five ton airplane T-2 when she took off at 9:40 a.m. in an effort to break the world’s endurance record. Lieutenant John A. MacReady, the world altitude record holder, was in the cabin of the ship. To break the record she must remain in the air for more than 35 hours.
