‘Never Start Anything You Can’t Find’
These words spoken by a bum on a park bench to Burke, deposed a spondent star of the Revenue Service, electrified him. The meek land came a fighting wildcat and, without badge or credentials, went afft smugglers tooth and nail—and was trapped!
But the girl who thought him a thief and laughed at his protestation that he was an officer, became his ally—no, she was not a crook.
What was the girl’s idea? Why her help?
You’ll find the answer—and lots of entertainment in this vigorous melo

DUST COMMISSIONER
PAUL SCHARRENBERG
SACRAMENTO, April 15.—Governor Richardson announced the ousting of Paul Scharrenberg as a member of the immigration and housing commission shortly before noon in a letter to Secretary of State Frank C. Cordan.
The letter did not mention Simon J. Lubin, who is also believed to be slated for discharge.
The governor's letter to Secretary of State Jordan follows:
"This is to advise you that I have removed Paul Scharrenberg as a member of the immigration and housing commission, effective at once."
Scharrenberg, secretary of the state federation of labor and staunch Hiram Johnson supporter, has been a member of the immigration and housing commission since its foundation nine years ago. He was appointed to the housing board by Johnson.
Simon J. Lubin, President of the housing commission will also be decapitated, according to the reports. Lubin is said to have precipitated his discharge by rebuking the governor for his drastic cuts in the immigration and housing commission budget.
Governor Richardson issued the following statement in explanation of his removal of Scharranberg:
"In my message I called attention to the menace to good government due to the action of state employees and members of boards and commissions in exerting undue influence upon the members of the legislative and I promised to assist in checking objectionable lobbying. My attention has been called to the fact that Mr. Scharrenberg, as a member of the immigration and housing commission, has been using his position as a state official to influence legislation, and for that reason I am removing him from office. I particularly protest at his action in appearing before the legislature as a state official in an attempt to make building more expensive and burdensome upon the people."
missions in exerting undue influence upon the members of the legislative and I promised to assist in checking objectionable lobbying. My attention has been called to the fact that Mr. Scharrenberg, as a member of the immigration and housing commission, has been using his position as a state official to influence legislation, and for that reason I am removing him from office. I particularly protest at his action in appearing before the legislature as a state official in an attempt to make building more expensive and burdensome upon the people. Mr. Scharrenberg may, if he so desires, continue to lobby as a private citizen but he will not be able to pose longer as a member of my official family."
Scharrenberg is attending the session of the legislature at Sacramento as official legislative representative of the state federation of labor and has acted in that capacity for many years.
After reading the governor's statement announcing his removal, Scharrenberg said:
"I have read the governor's statement and cheerfully plead guilty to the charge of lobbying for good housing laws. If that is a crime I want to be classed as a criminal. I am not now nor have I ever been on the state payroll. I am salaried representative of the California State Federation of Labor and hope to continue at my work during the present session just as I have done for the past five sessions."
BOOSTS FULLERTON
The regular monthly membership meeting of Fullerton Chamber of Commerce was held last night. There was a large attendance. Dinner was served by McFarlane's Cafe. There was a short business session during which committee reports were received, and six new members admitted.
Then the speaker of the evening, E. C. Thomas, in charge of the P. E. Ry, executive service, was introduced. He said Fullerton was one of the finest cities of California, and especially landed the school system, saying that he heard of the fame of Fullerton's schools in all parts of the state. He predicted a great future for the city.

STOPS COUGH AND WHEEZY BREATHING

Coughs resulting from Flu, Gripe, Wheoping Cough, Asthma and Bronchitis, quickly relieved with Foley's Honey and Tar. Three generations of satisfied users have made Foley's Honey and Tar the largest selling cough medication in the New York bomb.

more gasoline mileage with Zerolene
Pew motorists would willingly pay fancy prices for oil if they knew what we know about Zerolene, which sells for about half the price of many other oils.
Zerolene, made from selected Naphthenic-Base Crude and vacuum-distilled by our exclusive process, stands up better and gives better, continuous lubrication than any oil we have seen and tested or been able to produce.
One of the best proofs of this is that a car lubricated with Zerolene averages 5% better in gasoline mileage than a car lubricated with other oils, as shown by repeated laboratory tests. Even more important, Zerolene will run a car from 25% to 50% farther before carbon-removing operations are required.
Insist on Zerolene—even if it does cost less. Consult our Correct Lubrication Chart to determine the correct oil for your car.
