START DRILL SOON AT NEW VALLECINTO
With every indication pointing to immediate fulfillment of their contract the announcement that the Globe Petroleum Corporation have secured the oil rights on Vallecinto, the new subdivision just east of Long Beach boulevard on the Riverside-Redondo boulevard, is the subject of much speculation. Preparations are being made for an early start on the drilling work, according to Del Porte & Ryerson, selling agents of the Vallecinto property. The Globe company already has the lumber for the first derrick on the ground, and the site for Vallecinto Well No 1 has been chosen. Arrangements for the delivery of all necessary machinery have been completed, and actual drilling will begin as soon as possible.
Coincident with this activity, the machinery for the development of the Vallecinto tract along residential lines is being received and put in action.
With the idea that large economies of both time and operation expense can be secured by having the work in their own hands, the developers of this subdivision have contracted for a full line of grading, filling and other construction machinery and organized their own construction department. The engineers have completed the work of laying out the streets, staking lots, establishing building lines, etc., so that the actual development can begin at once. Within sixty days, it is expected, not only will all streets be graded, but considerable of the sidewalk and curbing will be installed and several homes will be in course of erection.
It is pointed out by Dej Porte & Ryerson that Vallecinto will be, in reality, an entirely new community.
The expectation of the surbdividers is to build up a commercial area along the Riverside Redondo Boulevard frontage, in which will be stores of every description to serve the needs of the neighborhood. In the meantime, they explain there are many stores within easy reach, and both grammar and high schools are close at hand. Later, it is planned to build schools at Vallecinto.

During the past few days there has been many rumors that oil has been found in the nearby Compton field, and at any moment it is expected that news will come of the successful termination of one or more of the drilling operations now in progress.
Announcement that C. C. Julian, the independent operator who has such great success in the Santa Fe Springs district, has bought a large tract of land not far from Vallecinto has aroused the greatest interest among oil men, and has given a big impetus to oil operations in this section.
DENIES RY. PURCHASE AT FORD'S OFFICE
My International News Service)
MINNEAPOLIS, April 14.—Henry Ford is negotiating for the purchase of the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad, it was reported today in local and eastern financial circles.
The Detroit automobile manufacturer wants control of the load in order to give him his own transportation system throughout the northwest and the middle west, where the market is heaviest.
The transaction would involve more than $500,000,000 it was stated, as the estimated valuation of the railroad is in excess of that sum.
CHICAGO, April 14.—Officials of the Chicago Milwaukee and St. Paul railroad here today flatly denied reports from mMinneapolis that Henry Ford contemplates purchase of that line.
"Nothing to it at all," was the commandt of the president of the road, with offices here, when his attention was called to the report by the International News Service this afternoon.

A prominent rock and gravel company of the county has issued some rules to its truck drivers that similar concerns might well practice. Here are some of them:
Observe all traffic laws. Be courteous on the road. Watch your rear-sight mirror and give automobiles a chance.
Report all accidents, of any kind, promptly.
Find out what roads are closed, and stay off of them.
The lawful speed limit is 15 miles per hour. Obey it, and make time by not loafing at the ends.

A Scene from
"The Famous Mrs. Fair"
Although Fred Niblo's pictureization of the great American play, "The Famous Mrs. Fair," which opens tomorrow at the California Theatre, deals with the lives of persons moving in the highest social circles, this Metro-Louis B. Mayer production has more than enough thrills and good fast action to keep it from being confused with the ordinary tea party plot.
Blending into the main theme of James Forber' famous stage creation and affording exciting contrast to the quietly tense developments of the story are a number of big melodic cones which will bring a thrill to the more blase of theatre-goers.
Probably the most spectacular event in the Fred Niblo production is a race in the dead of night between a through passenger train and high-powered ronderster. Cullen Landis, at the wheel, took several chances in getting realism for the screen. Roaring along at break-neck speed on the state highway that parallels the railroad track in Santa Barbara-co, dodging cars along the route, making sharp turns on mountain roads, scaling steep grades. Mr. Landis gave the cameraman something to talk about.

BEEBE & HARRISON
WILL ISSUE BONDS
In another column will be found the announcement of the Fidelity & Deposit Co., of Maryland appointing Messrs Beebe and Harrison, local insurance men, as their exclusive representatives for Anaheim and vienna.
This action was made necessary by the increasing demand for bonds from this city, caused principally by the ever increasing building activity. In the past, much delay was caused contractors in securing bonds, because of the fact that it was necessary for the bonds to be written in Los Angeles. In the future, bonds will be issued from the Anaheim office, thus saving much valuable time.
This action of the Fidelity & Deposit Co., which is one of the strongest bonding companies in the United States, again shows that the eyes of the financial world are, in a sense, centered on Orange-co, and also shows that it wishes to give the best possible service.
