NEW ORGANIZATION DEVELOPING TALENT Anahelm Community Players organization has been in existence only a few months but they seem already to have acquired the habit of doing live theater in a big way. Friday night will present at the Fairyland Theater, their first public play, a three-act farce entitled, "Her Husband's Wife". The play has been in preparation under the direction of Miss Alice Young for six weeks and nothing in the way of hard work and attention to detail has been overlooked or made it a great success. Six Anahelm people, three women and three men, comprise the cast. Mrs. Harry Sears, as Irene Randolph, whose only troubles are imaginary, plays the part of a woplan in whose character a great change is wrought by genuine complications. Mrs. Harrison Sidnam as Emily Ladew plays virtually two roles; first that of a demure would-be spinster and later an apparently dangerous vampire. Miss N. M. Owen as the maid brings more than one hearty laugh. Courtney Clark takes the part of Richard Belden, a lover whose way for a while is beet with obstacles. C. H. Prescott as Stuart Randolph, the husband of Irene, is innocently darged into trouble and as a result precipitates a very amusing situation. The part of John Belden; a general old bachelor and uncle of Irene and Stuart, is taken by Clarence Chamberlain. "Her Husband's Wife," one of America's well known plays was written by A. E. Thomas, and first produced in the Broad Street Theater, Philadelphia. Later it enjoyed a long run in New York. As a special favor to the Anahelm Players as a community group the customary royalty on this play was materially reduced. For this reason and because Brisk Demand For Community Tickets Reports by the committee on sale of tickets for "Her Husband's Wife" indicate that nearly everyone who has heard that the Anahelm Community Players plan to produce a three-act play intends to see it. The Fairyland Theater which has been secured for the occasion will seat nearly 800, and it is hoped to have a full house when the curtain goes up. Nearly all seats have been reserved and those tickets that have not already been exchanged at Heyings Drug Store may, according to the ticket committee, be exchanged Friday night at the Fairyland box office. IT'S DELIGHTFUL LITTLE COMEDY The action of the play is laid at the home of the Randolphs who are living at Saratoga during the racing season. John Belden, the genial uncle of Irene and Richard Belden, arrives for a visit and finds Stuart Randolph, the young husband, much concerned over the melancholy mood that seems to have obsessed his wife. Irene imagines herself about to die and asks the help of her uncle John in securing a second wife for Stuart. Uncle John recognizes the absurdity of the matter but pretends to fall in with the scheme. Miss La Dew, the motherly little woman selected by Irene, turns out to be something of a vampire and by her apparent enthusiasm for the proposed match makes possible many intensely dramatic complications. For this reason and because of the highly humorous quality of the play the privilege of reproducing it in Anaheim has been regarded as a valuable one. "Her Husband's Wife" is truly a delightful little comedy. A. E. Thomas, the author, has told a genuinely human tale that is replete with some genuinely gripping complications. This is largely due to the skill in characterization and the delicacy and sprightness of the dialogue. Difficult to catalog as essentially a farce or a comedy it can nevertheless be recommended as a highly entertaining play. STORE PLAYERS Present ‘Her Husband’s Wife’ COMMUNITY GIVES REAL CO-OPERATION The presentation of "Her Husband's Wife," the first public performance of the Anaheim Community Players, is being handled as a truly community endeavor. The players have discovered that in making the many detail arrangements for the staging of the play they are deeply indebted for much assistance outside the organization. The plays that have been previously presented have been for the benefit of members only and have raised no serious problems in handling. To the directors of Community Service much credit is due for the encouragement extended and the grant of financial assistance that be necessary. The probing a place suitable for the ing of a community play was by the very generous offer of Ingram, proprietor of the Fal Theater, to lend the theater at actual cost of lighting and aration.
