BREA STAGES COME-BACK LAST WEEK
With Oil Operators
The old Brea field staged something of a come back last week when the Shell Co. of California brought in a 1500 barrel well in the Brea Can-yon district. The big producer was completed on the former Columbia Oil Producing Co.'s property. Pico lease, well No. 4. Pico 4 was drilled to 4216 feet and the 1700 Barrel producer is making 31 gravity oil. This is the biggest well the field has had since the coming in of the big producers on the Tonner and Sterns properties.
Fairview is on the edge of expectancy. It is reported that the Fairview Oil Co. is about ready to make a demonstration. Drilling of the Fairview deep test well No. I was concluded at about 4800 feet. A combination oil and water string has been set and a production test will be made soon. The deep test well was drilled by Wm. Keck a man who has a record for getting production no matter what depth it is required to go.
The Standard Oil Co.'s La Mirada test well McNally 2-1 has passed the 5700 foot mark and the outlook for production appears very doubtful. The test well will prove up a lot of property over which there has been a matter of differing opinion for some time.
Seal Beach is now on the last lap for production possibilities. The Seal Beach Oil Co. tezumed drilling last week and is now getting down to where something oneway or another must show up soon. The Seal Beach Oil Co. has some 4650 feet of hole drilled and from 4500 feet on there have been a number of encouraging oil and gas showings.
Great things are scheduled for the old Montebello field. It seems to be an assured fact that the Union Oil Company's deep test well La Merced No. 29 is going to make good. A nice showing of oil sand was found at 4935 that carries a high gravlay oil. The cement is being drilled out and the long looked for well will be in shape to make a showing in a few days.
INCUMBENTS WIN IN SANTA ANA ELECTION
With only one uncontested office, that of City Clerk, Santa Ana's election yesterday was as sharply fought as any in years.
Incumbents appeared to have an advantage over their opponents. Mr. Claudio Rogers, elected city marshal, the office he fell heir to when Sam Jernigan was elected sheriff. He received 1812 votes, compared with 875 for Clark and 1569 for Lacy. Mrs. Olive Lopez city treasurer, was re-elected with 1930 against 1725 for William W. Clevenger and 532 for Frank L. Burns. City Recorder William F. Heathman was re-elected by 2437 against 800 for Edgar Edgar L. Finch, 614 for James S. Trew and 645 for Clinton Imes.
The race for councilmen resulted as follows: First ward, Frank Ey 1906, Claude L. Killen, 2217; second ward, J. H Scott 1958; John W. Tubbs 2217; third ward, Charles H. Chapman 2258, Edward W. Coehems 876; fourth ward, L. Crasher 632, George McPhee, 2008, Dr. E. H. Rowlands 1592; fifth ward, Walter A. Greenleaf 1141, Nat H. Neff 1335, Frank L. Purinton $18 and N. E. Wray 908.
In the race for the Board of Education, those elected were: Frank L. Andrews, 3352 votes; Alex H. Brownridge, 3723; Dr. Roy S. Horton, 2311; M. L. Keeler, 2798; and Charles F. Smith, 2739. The other candidates received: W. W. Hoy, 1552; Leonard G. Swales, 2231 H. B. Woodrough 1779.
HEAVY LOSES IN ACME CO. BURGLARY
Several hundred dollars worth of clothing was taken in the robbery of the Acme Cleaners and Dyers on North Los Angeles street Saturday night, according to a report at the police station today. The managers of the plant could give no estimate yesterday. A partial list of articles taken is as follows: one gray beads; one black silk dress, red beads; one black sink dress, black beads; one lavender silk dress,

The St. Helens Petroleum Co. has gotten the deep test fever and will make a well out of Piuma-Briana No. 3. Drilling has already passed the $100 foot mark and some very good oil showings have been encountered.
H. L. Whiston has completed the erection of a 165 foot rig on the Bicknell property and with this big rig and extra heavy equipment Whiston plans to set a new record for deep development.
Bellflower is still a question. The Cal-Petro Oil Producers Synd. has about completed the reaming of a 2865 foot hole and will be settling in a few days. Prior to 2865 the well has shown considerable gas and officials of the company feel justified in stopping drilling and taking the necessary precautions of setting pipe before going further.
NEW STORM PUSHES TOTAL OVER 8 INCHES
Thirty-one one hundredths of an inch of rain had fallen in the 24 hours ending at eight o'clock this morning in the Anaheim district, with the new storm likely to increase this figure materially before the day was over. The measurement is that of the Anaheim Orange and Lemon Association, which reported that the storm was very spotty like the previous one last week. The season's total now is 8.10 against 16.80 for last year, when a record of many years was set.
Last week's storm of 1.12 inch prepared the ground and none of the last storm was wasted.
The Anaheim Sugar Company's gauge indicated 28, making a total of 10.50.
Max Nebelung reported .32. The three measurements indicate that the precipitation in the Anaheim district was fairly uniform.
The Yorba Linda Citrus Association reported .19, making season's total of 8.11.
The storm appeared to be heavier northward. Fullerton, for instance, received 24, according to the Placentia Orange Growers and LaHabra .45, according to the LaHabra Citrus Fruit Association. The former's total is 8.74 and the latter's 8.45.

GASOLINE REDUCED 1 CENT PER GALLON
Anaheim today is paying some of the principal companies 19½ cents gallon for its gasoline instead of 20½ cents. The Standard Associated and Union put into effect a cut of one cent and Shell and other concerns are expected to follow suit, as usual, today or tomorrow.
Engine distillate is reduced half a cent.
The Standard also made known a new schedule of prices for refined grades of crude oil at the well in Southern California Heavy crude is unchanged.
The new list is not effective, however, until the 20th of the month.
Refinable crude now ranges from 60 cents to $1.00 on grades of 14 to 35 degrees gravity.
In the San Joquin fields no change in the price of crude is announced.

SACRAMENTO, April 10—The Cleary-Stevenot reapportionment bill providing a limit of presentation of any county to ten members of the assembly today was defeated by a vote of 48 for and 26 against the bill.
Being a constitutional amendment a two-thirds vote was needed to pass the bill. Assemblyman Charles W. Cleary of Tulare, one of the authors, moved for reconsideration and he predicted he would have enough votes to pas it then.
