New Vamp Type in Ben Turpin Comedy Kathryn McGuire's role in the forthcoming Mack Sennett five-reel comedy feature, "The Shriek of Araby," now showing at the United Theatre, is said by those who saw the picture in the making, to be "moment new" in the line of a vamp portrayals, although unlike most 'vamps,' Miss McGuire finally marries her victim. Hers is the principal character in the plot aside from Ben Turpin's characterization of "The Shriek." Miss McGuire, as an artist, first appears aboard ship on her way to the great Sahara desert. Enroute she vanishes and sketches a Sheik returning to his native country after a visit to America. Her charms also attract the attention of one of the crew (Ben Turpin), who later through peculiar circumstances becomes the Sheik of Araby. They meet again and a scene follows in which he tries to exercise his authority, out her beauty and blaze manner overcomes him. He is but a weakling in her hands, of which condition she takes advantage in the face of his hordes of wild looking Arabian attendants. EVENT EXTRAORDINARY! ELECTION Religious issues brought into the Santa Ana municipal campaign, together with the Ku Klux Klan, promises to make today's election one of the most keenly contested in yours. There are 13 candidates for the five jobs of councilman. A small circular is being distributed, addressed to "Real Protestant voters", declaring that "A last minute attempt by certain churchmen is being made to defeat others whose names appear on the ballot by insinuating that the candidates are members of the Ku Klux Klan. Don't be deceived by such propaganda." There follows a list of the candidates endorsed, all of whom are declared to be "Protestant citizens" of Santa Ana. These include the names of Claude L. Killen, John W. Tubbs, Charles R. Chapman, Dr. Elliott H. Rowland and N. E. Wray for councilman; Ed Vegeley for city clerk, Clinton Imes for recorder, Claude Rogers for city marshal, W. W. Cleverger for treasurer, Z. B. West, Jr., for attorney and Frank L. Andrewa, Dr. Roy S. Horton and Charles F. Smith for the board of education. West was the first to be accused of being a Klan member. He denied it, and District Attorney A. P. Nelson, who has a list of Klan members of the county, confirmed him in this. The Santa Ana Voters' League has endorsed another bunch of candidates. They are: For councilmen, Frank Ey, J. H. Scott, George McPhee, and Nat H. Neff; for treasurer, William W. Cleveland; for recorder, W. F. Heathman, the present incumbent; for city attorney, Z. B. West, Jr.; and for the board of education, Alex Brownridge, M. I. Keeler, and H. B. Woodrough. Many whispers were heard concerning it, and it furnished many choice morsels of gossip in all strata of society, but in spite of the ugly rumors circulated, the authorities took no action. Even high government officials frequented it, including the notorious governor of the province, who believed that his wife was ignorant of his love for the Countess La Fontaine, a half-caste adventress, met her there clandestinely. But one day the wronged wife followed him to the club, and gaining entrance through subterfuge, discovered him with the countess. Then she— The consequences of her visit are dramatically portrayed in Norma Talmadge's latest offering, "The Voice From the Minaret," a First National picture now playing at the California Theatre. Frank Lloyd directed this thrilling tale, which is based on the novel by Robert Hichens. Staff Correspondent) ROME, April 9—a tall alder olive-skinned girl who, in the legs of Italy, was "born to be a soldier's bride," fulfilled the prohecy here today when the Princess Yolanda, eldest daughter of King Victor Emmanuel and Queen Elena, was married to Count Calvi Di Bergolo, a war veteran and a captian in the Italian army. There were two services, one civil and the second religious, in accordance with the ritual of the Roman Catholic Church. It was the first time a religious nuptial ceremony had taken place in the royal hall of the Quirinal Palace, formerly the throne hall of the popes. This was the first royal marriage in Italy in 27 years and the first in Europe since Princess Mary, daughter of King George of England, was married 14 months ago. The Princess Yolanda, a beautiful girl of 22, had been reported engaged to scoliosis of two royal families—first the Prince of Wales, and later to the Crown Prince of Belgium. Such a marriage contract would have had a large element of international politics and diplomacy involved in it. It and District Attorney A. P. Nelson, who has a list of Klan members of the county, confirmed him in this. The Santa Ana Voters' League has endorsed another bunch of candidates. They are: For councilmen, Frank Ey, J. H.
