OLIVE IMP. ASS'N.
IN ANNUAL SESSION
With eighty interested and enthusiastic residents meeting in Olive hall, the Olive Improvement Ass'n enjoyed a languet and annual gathering last evening. A sumptuous four-course meal was served by a committee of ladies of the busy town to give the evening the proper start.
The biggest topic for discussion was fire protection. Plans were offered for increasing the capacity of the reservoir and laying larger mains. Amendment of the by-laws was another important transaction.
Directors chosen were Dr. J. D. Thomas, K. V. Wolff, C. O. Heim, L. A. Bortz, R. H. Paulus, T. B. Maxwell, Ben H. Cole. Upon organization, Dr. Thomas was persuaded to again accept the presidency, with promise of unlimited support and assistance. C. O. Heim was elected vice president and Ben H. Cole, secretary, to succeed K. V. Wolff, who could not accept re-election, on account of individual business affairs.
V. D. Johnson, secretary of Orange C. of C., was present and gave an inspiring address on C. of C.' work in general and visioned the future of Orange-co in rosy hues.
A recent improvement in the lively town is the fine business block now under construction on the corner of Canyon-blvd and Oak-st. Already rented, the building will house the postoffice, now in a grocery store across the street, a modern restaurant, a hardware store, general merchandise store, drug store and a new bakery. The building of pressed brick, has a frontage of 104 feet and a depth of 80 feet. It is constructed to carry an upper story in the future.
The Olive Investment company purchased the site some time ago, and sold to L. A. Borrz, A. C. Fletcher and N. T. Edwards, who erected the building.

EVERY INSURANCE RECORD SMASHED
The Metropolitan Life Insurance Company broke all records in amount of business done in the year 1922, according to a report published today. The amount of new business placed on the books exceeded the phenomenal year of 1920 and was far in excess of what had been done in 1921. The officers of the Company believe that this certainly reflects business conditions.
Particularly significant is the fact that Industrial insurance, which is taken largely by wage earners and their families, had such a great volume. The total amount of industrial insurance placed during the year was over $775,000,000. The investment situation is also good. The income of the Company increased by over thirty-eight and a half million dollars that of 1921, reaching the total of $340,267,301. The assets of the Company increased $144,267,300 and at the end of the year stood at $1,259,850,325. The mortality increased somewhat as compared with the previous year, and the total number of claims paid was 365,276. This was an average of one claim paid every 24 seconds of each business day of eight hours, or just about 1,000 a day during the year, including Sundays and holidays. The amount paid to policy holders averaged $803.81 a minute of each business day.

SO. CALIF. DEMANDS BEST IN PLUMBING
Concrete evidence of the substantial manner in which the plumbing industry of Southern California is succeeding in its campaign to safeguard public health through the adoption of modern methods of sanitation is contained in a report just compiled by the research committee of the Sanitary Development League 826 Higgins Building.
This report shows that a greater advance has been made in the installation of improved sanitary equipment than in any other section of California. It is also announced that the campaign has resulted in a demand on the part of home-builders and the general public for the best in plumbing materials and in workmanship.
This movement to protect the public from the evils of improper sanitation is having a far-reaching effect," said Charles H. Treat, president of the Board of Public Works, in an address before the Sanitary Development League.
"It has started the public thinking, it has awakened those who are directing the building of our homes, office-buildings, industrial plants and great manufacturing establishments to the dangers that lie in the use of materials that merely comply with building specifications and that will not endure through time.
Plumbing has more to do with the public health than almost anything else. Careful thought should be given to the problem of sanitation in the building of any structure. It means for the future safety of every community.
RADIO FROM TRAIN
Marking a new epoch in radio development work, a combined receiving and sending station will be on board the So. Pac. "Momus Special" when it leaves Los Angeles Sunday morning for New Orleans and New York.

It will be the first time in radio development work on this coast that a train leaving a California terminal has been equipped with a sending station.
