LABOR SECY PROBES ALIEN SMUGGLING WASHINGTON, March 30—Assistant Secretary of Labor Edward J. Henning will leave tonight for a tour of southern ports to make a comprehensive survey of conditions surrounding the smuggling of aliens into the United States. NEAR PANIC IN HOTEL (By International News Service) LOS ANGELES, Mar. 20—A near panic was averted in a South Hill street hotel early today when fire broke out in the room occupied by J. R. Malahan of Seattle. The fire started when a cigarette, dropped by Malahan as he fell asleep, ignited the bed clothing and within a few minutes the room was in flames. The fire was confined to Malahan's room. With Orange-co high schools closed today account of election, Anaheim athletes had put in several hours practicing for events at Fullerton tomorrow afternoon when 100 track stars compete in the annual county event. Coach Ray Elliott is sending over a fast team and Mann, Zainl and Reese, in the best of condition, are expecting to annex a number of digits. Without a doubt, Huntington Beach will take the meet, Fullerton and Santa Ana bitterly contesting. The relay contest will be the fastest event of the day and will windup affairs. SUSPEND SENTENCE FOR MUSSING ROAD Harry Falling, an oil company official of Huntington Beach, was given a 20-day suspended sentence by Superior Judge R. Y. Williams yesterday in connection with the alleged permitting of mud oil and water to spread over Garfield street in the beach city from the company's wells. The conviction is the first in connection with the county's injunction against about a score of concerns with property abutting on Garfield street and Summit avenue. Purther are promised by Judge Williams if conditions are not abated. L. Williams, "the man with 2 aliases" has confessed to having victimized many Orange county service stallions with fake checks it was reported today, following his arrest at San Francisco. Williams' record is said to extend through three countries. Palo Alta, Pasadena, Los Angeles and San Francisco and Santa Clara County were visited by Williams. The new wills of Amalie Frohling (Eyman), deceased, former wealthy Anaheim woman, are on file with the County Clerk today, each almost identical with the first, cutting off Walter Eyman. The latter already has sued on the ground of alleged fraud. One of the two new wills was dated the next day after the will already sought to be probated or on ENDS LIFE LAST YEAR BOBDY FOUND TODAY (SAN FRANCISCO, March 30.) His hand still gripping the gun which end ended his life last August, Earnest Schade, 65, an inventor, was found dead today in his quarters at the Western Pacific Hotel, Schade, whose habits were irregular had leased three room for a year, and no one paid any attention when he was not seen since last August. No notes were found and the police believe Schade took his life in a moment of despondency. Aug. 24, 1915 and the third was dated Aug. 24.
