DAILY GREETINGS TO
OUR READERS
There are purposes which God Himself can not fulfill on earth except through you, and every sin of yours is a barrier set in God's way. When a man says that to himself he has a motive worth having—Francis G. Peabody.

SOUTHWEST IS GROWING
This virile Southwest is growing steadily in population. All reports indicate this. The most superficial observation shows it. There is not a city in Southern California or in Arizona that is not going forward gratefully.
Another gratifying fact in connection with this growth is the quality of people who are coming to this section. They are responsible, forward-going people, for the most part. This section draws comparatively few shiftless neer-do-wells. Its newcomers, for the most part, are rugged, progressive, enterprising folk. Their coming adds to the progressional forces to the community.
There is developing here a thoroly representative American community. It draws unto itself influential persons from older communities in other states. The welding together of the influx of homemakers with those already here is an exceedingly simple process. They are thoroughgoing Americans. Many of them were neighbors and friends "backyonder." They are just reuniting here. Newcomers soon feel at home. And those who have been here longer soon feel that the newcomers are integral parts of community life. There is no awkward period of waiting to "get acquainted."
For a great many years Washington correspondents, hard put to it on dull days, would resurrect agitation in behalf of a change in the constitutional date for inaugurating Presidents and for inducing newly-elected members of Congress. To those who followed closely the course of Washington correspondence, these agitations signified little. But now there is a movement that has really significance—a movement to change the inaugural date and the time of induction of Congress to January, from March. The proposed change is sensible and it is to be hoped that the projected constitutional amendment may go before the states and be ratified.
"Economy" should be underscored

"Economy" should be underscored in the legislator's lexicon.
Business and industrial conditions

Good citizenship does not consist

The American people do not forget to play. Frequent periods of recreation are as safety valves, that prevent a frightful number of break-downs of nervous systems.
Mr. Harding has not categorically said so, but his political friends are giving the public to understand that he will be averse to accepting the second cup in Presidential politics.

Another nice thing about women in business is that men are not so prone to put off shaving until tomorrow.
Thrift is, after all, a manner of looking at things—a point of view, as it were; but since it is also an economic virtue, it merits attention and cultivation. Thrift is the narrow mesh of safety and efficiency which lies between the extremes of parsimony on the one hand and extravagance on the other, not one of which qualities is a virtue. Among the qualities which make for material well-being, thrift is a superior endowment or attainment as a policy for the guidance of either individual or nation. Thrift is that quality which impels one to an active, conscious management of one's affairs in a manner which conserves and makes the most of opportunities and means at hand. The thrifty man is keen, alive; he knows his business, and is always on the job looking after his affairs; he stretches his dollars to their utmost, making them command their absolute maximum. He must

PUT SOLID THINKING INTO POLITICS
One of the acute needs of the United States today—the thinker in politics; not alone the thinking leader in politics, but the thinking rank and file—the thinking masses. Republican government is safe in the hands of calm, conscientious, thinking millions.
This is a period which particularly invites the people to think deeply and to decide wisely in political affairs. The great war left many problems for this nation, both domestic and foreign. Upon these problems and issues the masses of the people should become thoroughly enlightened. From intelligent conception should come conscientious convictions. And these conscientious convictions, transmitted into action, should mark a wise and proper course for the nation.

War is a biological condition.
And nature, by biology, will replace the war losses. Two more generations, and you'll never know there had been a war in Europe, when you look over the official nose-count.
