SANTA FE SPRINGS PRODUCES 165,000 BARRELS EACH DAY With Oil Operators Santa Fe Springs daily production set a new record the past week when it claimed 165,000 barrels. It is believed the peak of production for the famous high gravity field will not be reached short of the 200,000 mark. The common practice of bringing in 4,6 and 8 thousand barrels, and the big wells standing up close to their initial production makes the Springs field one of the most dependable and wonderful oil fields in the world. The Buckeye Union Oil company headed by A. L. Irish started the week's big production increase with a 4000 barrel well. Buckeye No. 1 was drilled by the W. O. Todd Drilling company and completed at 4729 feet in the Meyer sand. The Buckeye producer is making 35 gravity oil. Jack Doyle and Jack McKeon completed a 5000 barrel at Doyle-McKeon No. 1. The big well another deep and producer was finished in the Meyer at 4550 and promises to be one of the great producers of the field. Jack McKeon seems to be starting on a wonderful successful oil career. He is entitled for a large measure of success in turn for the years of hard work and tough sledding. No oil men in the country is wished more success than "Honest" Jack McKeon. The Russell Petroleum Company, one of the smaller organizations that entered Santa Fe Springs a few months ago is now the owners of a 4500 barrel well. The Russell completed its No. 1 in the southwest section of the field at 4730 feet and got the usual 35 gravity production. The Russell Petroleum Company has 30 acres of property and plans on the drilling of additional wells immediately. C. C. Julian brought his No. 1 back one of the big wells of the field. Redrilled to 4620 feet and setting a combination oil and water string the well came back to 5000 barrel producer. Julian No. 4 continues to produce at better than 2400 barrels and has proven a nice dividend payer. Julians operations at the Springs have been marked with success from the start. William ENGLISH BANK HOLDS OLD CUSTOMS LONDON, Mar. 29. The bank in which Samuel Pepys kept an account—which remained overdrawn when he died—has just celebrated its 25th birthday anniversary. It is one of the three oldest banks in London, and goes by the name of Messrs Hoare and Company. Since the beginning it has been ruled by the Hoare family, oldest son succeeding eldest son as the head of the firm. Time has not changed many of the customs begun by the founders. To this day a member of the house of Hoare sleeps every night in one of the quiet bedrooms overlooking a peaceful garden in the rear of the banking house, which is in Fleet st. Every morning at 9 o'clock he unlocks the big front door with a huge key. This tradition began in the 17th century. In those days coaches could not be depended upon to get one to business on time, so one of the partners was assigned to sleep at the bank. G. & L. LEASE G. & L. LEASE, Mar. 29. (Spl.)—Meadames G. S.
