FIND DEEP SAND IN MONTEBELLO FIELD WITH OIL OPERATORS The Union Oil has found the deep sand at Montebello and the old field is scheduled for a great revival of development. The important discovery was made on the La Merced lease of the Union at well N. 23. The sand constituting the most important find of the field since the discovery of oil there five years ago was drilled at a depth of 4930 feet. A number of deep test wells have been drilled in the Montebello field by different oil companies from time to time. In search of the deep sand. The discovery made by the Union Oil Company seems to assure the future of Montebello for deep sand production. Richfield's deep test well, the Standard Oil Company's Kramer I-15A is to get a try out. The well was completed for a production try out at 5247 feet. A string of 414 carrying 20 feet of perforated pipe was landed at 5247. As the well has not made much of a showing during the drilling not much is expected of it. The Union Oil Company's test well Graham-Loftus No. 53 a well on which great hopes for new deep production on the west side of the Richfield district continues to battle with water and the outlook is not very promising. Drilled to 3920 feet efforts have been made for months to shut off water at 3900 fete. Many leases were taken on properties a few months ago on the strength of the Union's well and now the holders of these leases are bit worried over the outlook. At Bellflower the Cal-Petro Oil Producers Syndicate reached a depth of 3870 feet and will set X-1 at 3856. Some showing of gas and oil at 3800 feet has put a more encouraging outlook upon the test well. The showings seem to indicate a chance for finding something soon after the casings is get. The Beatty Oil Company's well at Eagle Rock is making nice drilling progress and at 2768 feet is in sandy brown shale that carries gag in sufficient quantity to ignite and burn for several minutes. The Beatty Oil Company will continue the drilling "Spark Plug" First Entry in Auto Racing Here is the first entry in the Orange County Auto Racing by the Cadillac Garage company from its stock of ancient cars in 1913 model. Cuttle of the Water Conservation Association reports that the elevation of water, as indicated by levels and pressures in 24 wells in the San Bernardino artesian basin, show that the elevation in 12 wells is now an average of 3.22 feet higher than one year ago, and that show an average of .62 feet lower. The lower elevation and lower pressure can be accounted for, excepting in two wells, by local conditions. Three of these wells are close to City Creek, the bed of which is much lower than it was a year ago, and one well which shows a lower pressure is probably affected by a neighborhood well which has "Spark Plug" is the first entry in the Orange County Auto Racing Day races. The Beatty Oil Company will continue the drilling of its Eagle Rock well and make every effort to bring in a producer. In the Puente Hills the Chino-Corona United Oil Company has been getting some nice showings of gas at 4530 feet. The drill is working in brown shale and officials of the company claim the well never looked better than it does at the present time. Pany's test well at Hermosa Beach pany's test well at Hermosa Beach has been looking rather interesting. Drilling is now as 3100 feet and from 2550 to 3000 a number of light showings of oil were noted. Three of these wells are close to City Creek, the bed of which is much lower than it was a year ago, and one well which shows a lower pressure is probably affected by a neighborhood well which has been allowed to flow during the winter. The lower pressure in two wells has not yet been accounted for. It is encouraging to note that the elevation in the artesian basin, as indicated by these water levels and pressures of cartesian wells, is now 2.6 feet higher than a year ago, and this notwithstanding the fact that the rainfall for the present season is only 7.47 inches as compared to 15.76 inches a year ago. As there are approximately 30,000 acres in the area over which measurements have been kept, this would mean that saturation has occurred in 78,000 acre feet. If the saturation amounts to 25 percent it would mean that nearly 20,000 acre feet of water have been conserved. As the cost of spreading this water in 1922 was approximately 4c per acre foot it can be readily understood what a valuable storage reservoir is being utilized by the spreading of storm water by filling up the voids in the artesian basin. The opening of the new tract takes place tomorrow (Sunday) when excursions will be run from 109 N. Los Angeles street, Anabein, at 11 a.m. and from many other points. Del Porte & Ryerson, well known realtors, with offices at 125 East Ocean avenue, Long Beach, have been appointed selling agents. In announcing the purchase of the property and the completion of plans for its development, Mr. E. J. Del Porte said: "Vallecinto has been bought by far seeing and successful Long Beach business men who have carefully noted the trend of real estate development in so Calif. For many months they have been examining available property, on which could be built up a community of comfortable homes for families of modest means. They desired to lay the foundations of such a community on a main boulevard, within easy reach of established centers of population; but they wished also to be able to sell home sites at a price that would practically ensure future profits to purchasers. "The tract which they purchased meets these requirements. It lies about one mile cast of Long Beach boulevard, on the Main-street boulevard that runs through Compton and is known generally as the Riverside-Redondo boulevard. The 260 acres form an ideal site for a home subdivision. The land is excellent for garden purposes. There is a splendid water supply, and gas and electricity are immediately available. It is the intention of the purchasers to sell most of the lots with every improvement included in the purchase price; but a portion of the property will be set aside for those who prefer partially improved lots at a lower Do You Tell Your Friends About Willard Service? Reasons why: Steward has purchased a new type of grinding machine, and the 1923 Bulek anyhow can be serviced much more rapidly and easily than any of its predecessors. The machine is built so that the valve is kept at the proper angle while the work is being done. No more holding a valve against an emry wheel. The better servicing benefits both the car and owner and the shop. Not only is the 1923 model Buick more accessible than ever before, but it actually needs less servicing. Steward declared. Another advantage now is that working conditions and materials are on a more settled basis than ever. Steward recently drove a brand OF rude rubber, secretary of agriculture Wallace told the conference of rubber manufacturers today. "It will take time, money and scientific research to develop the rubber industry in the United States, but the goal is insight and it is worth striving for," Secretary Wallace said. He announced that scientists in the Department of Agriculture have been studying crude rubber possibilities. He believes American rubber manufactures ultimately will be independent of the British source of supply. Major George P. Ahren, former director of forestry in the Philippines said it would cost millions to establish the rubber industry there, but that once established, rich profits would be reaped. Cooperation of the Hawaiian Islands in the production of rubber was pledged by Raymond C. Brown, secretary of state for the territory. When in need, advertise in the Plain Dealer.
