SANTA ANA VALLEY
IRRIGATION CO. IS
SHORT 1500 INCHES
The Santa Ana Valley Irrigation Company is short 1500 miners' inches of water and a serious condition faces its growers according to a report from ranchers in Santa Ana today.
This condition is no exception. Farm Bureau Director Whedon said today that not only the County's bean crop, but its grains, of which perhaps more than 50 per cent were farmed dry and had no irrigation water, available, were threatened.
In fact the proposed Southern Counties' grain exchange is threatened with failure, owing to the increasing likelihood that this year's grain yield will fall.
Local growers who have taken the warning of local packing house associations as only the usual thing had better think again, according to Manager G. W. Sandilands of the Anaheim Orange and Lemon Association who decalres that 50 percent more water now is necessary to irrigate thoroly, than was demanded a couple of months ago.
Walnuts are receiving attention more than oranges in proportion to acreage, according to men in a position to know.
IDEAL WEATHER FOR TRI-COUNTY MEET
An ideal daw dawned for the annual tri-counties and field meet at Huntington Beach this afternoon when more than a hundred athletes displayed their talents.
It was bound to be a tough race for first places, especially in the sprints, when Cliff Allee of Fullerton; Art Mann, Anaheim; Stroschelm, Santa Ana and Naah, Huntington Beach, entered against a host of others. San Beranardino is known for its sprinters and is likely to have a number in line against the Orange county team.

A new record is also expected to be set in the mile run. Vawter, Santa Ana whiz, is in perfect shape and should make the spectators dizzy when he travels the oval.
Santa Ana and Fullerton are about equal in the events and their chance of coming out with the majority of points, would be to break into the events against Huntington Beach and San Bernardino. Very little is known of the schools in the other counties as to their stuff but undoubtedly will be the fast prep meet held in some time.

R. Phillipi, pitching for Norwalk high school again, Bonita in the valley league, got away with a no-hit no-run game. Twenty of the twenty-seven put-outs were strike outs for Phillipi. This is some record for other high school pitchers to shoot at. A few years back Norwalk had eleven boys to go out for baseball and won the Southern state championship. Baseball is Norwalk's main branch of athletics. Some of the best ball players in the country hall from that little town. Two players that have had much to do with the success of the Anaheim Elks and Merchants for the last three years are Norwalkers, Doty Bush and Jack Pendleton.
Sam Sandow the Long Beach middle weight wrestler is going to have another crack at the middle weight crown when he goes on the mat with Johnny Meyers at Hollywood next Wednesday evening. Meyers is going to be allowed the use of his famous stopper hold this time. The betting so far is on even terms so the stopper must not scare the Long Beach mat man much. In their meeting of a few weeks back, with the stopper barred Sandow looked better in a fail each drew.
