WEBBER DISCUSSES JUNE DROP CAUSES
Causes of June drop of citrus fruits and suggested methods of control are discussed by Dr. I.H. J. Webber, director of the Citrus Experiment Station, Riverside, in the March issue of Citrus Leaves. More interest centers about this problem today than any other single factor in citrus production. Dr. Webber carefully analyses both the physical and bacteriological factors of the disease and suggests several methods of control. Among other things, he points out that the Washington navel, which is more greatly affected by the disease than other types, is an abnormal species and susceptible to June drop. He advocates experimentation to discover a more hardy fruit to replace the Washington navel.

GOLDWYN BRINGS FILM UP-TO-DATE
Is a story with a great theme bound to any period?
This question was answered in the negative by the Goldwyn editorial board and Director Maurice Tourneur during the preparation for filming Sir Hall Calme's novel, "The Christian," which will be screened at the California theater for four days, beginning Sunday. Producers are reluctant to burden their photodramas with out-of-date styles in garb.
It is not surprising that occasionally the fact is overlooked that producers of pictures cannot tell in advance what will be a popular success but that by previous non-successes they have fairly reliable grounds for believing They can tell what will not be a success. Costume plays, particularly where the action is laid in foreign countries, have seldom received a warm welcome from the American public.
The Goldwyn editorial board and Tourneur were prompt and unanimous in deciding that "The Christian" would portray life of the present and not of a quarter century ago when Hall Calme first published the novel. The stage play, it will be remembered, first was produced in London about ten years ago, while two film versions, one in England and one in the United States, were released at about the same time.
Other reasons than avoiding the costume problem, however, situated those in charge of the enterprise Goldwyn editorial board and Tourneur agreed at once in the preliminary discussions that aside from the costume question, "The Christian" would have more force with present-day audiences if John Storm, as "The Christian," should be confronted with present-day temptations readily understood by the present day public, and also that as the story is predominantly apschoolical study, noting would be gained by hampering it with the clothing of its original period.
"A story with a great theme," said Mr. Tourneur in discussing Their decision, "is not bound to any one period."
So, "The Christian," in this screen version is a man of this hour, living his devoted life under the conditions which now prevail, and meeting objectionable fruits control are far direc-tion, no any produc-analyses biological suggests Among; that the is more use than species hop. HEAVY DEMAND FOR PHILHARMONIC SEATS
A new and improved seating arrangement has been completed at the Fullerton H. S. auditorium for the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra which comes Wednesday, March 28, under the auspices of the Fullerton Junior College.
Hugh Hampton, student publicity manager, has divided the house into eight sections, selling from $0c to $1.50. Any seat in a given section is as good as the next.
The ushers will be instructed to fill the sections in solid blocks, thus avoiding the usual confusion of late comers, having to find their way through the crowded seats.
Even at this early date, much interest and enthusiasm is being shown.
SHERWOOD SEEKS DOWNTOWN LOCATION
The local branch of the Sherwood Music School of Chicago is seeking downtown quarters in order to take care of the rapid growth. The school, under the able direction of Miss Stella A. Schwentker and Miss Edna L. Hochul, has meant a great deal to the musical life of Anaheim and several new teachers have been added to the faculty. In the future, every department of musical instruction will be represented.
Mr. Bert Rawlinson, manager of the 200 branches of this great school that are located in So. Calif., has been in Anaheim looking for a location. Alto available studios which would exactly meet the needs of this growing school are hard to find he feels sure that in a few days he will be able to give definite information on the new location.
