PARENTS GIVE
GIRL SURPRISE
ON BIRTHDAY
SEVENTEEN guests, a large birthday cake with seventeen candles, and the seventeenth birthday of Miss Mia Priddy tended to make Saturday, Feb. 24, a memorable date. Miss Priddy, all unsurprising, was sent to meet her aunt and cousin, Mrs. R. Mossey and De Ole Mosey, early in the evening, upon their arrival from Long Beach. While she was gone the home was pretty trimmed in a pink and green nettle, sweet peas, ferns and other greenery forming the combination.
Upon her return she was overwhelmed with surprise as the door opened and the lights flashed up, for there was a houseful of guests, who tendered her merry and noisy greetings. She was then presented with many nice gifts.
Added to the general line of party games were others prepared by the hostess in which every boy and girl present was included in a joke, and by which all took the brunt as came their turn, and felt that "those whoaught last, laugh best."
Refreshments were brought on late in the evening, the table being centred with a large basket of pikc sweet peas and ferns and a gorgeous birthday cake.
The merry party remained until after the clock struck 12, for the coming day marked the birth of two others of the guests. They were appropriately punished by privilege or tradition.
Assisting in the surprise were the Misses Lucy Abplanalp, Florence Trupp, Leona Luther, Erma Bates, Marjorie Cutter, Edna Reennie, Roberta Cawthon, and the Messora Wayne Overmose, Raymond Musser, Wilton Abplanalp, Ted-Sims, Ed Sims, Ervin Holder, Charles Reece, De Ole Mosey, Jack Barnett, and Mr. and Mrs. Goo Trapp, Mrs. R. The actual date fell on Saturday, but work-a-day people usually celebrate on Sunday when every member of the families may be present. Mrs. Doollin had learned to expect something extra on her birthdays and on Saturday morning when there was no sign of festivity, her countenance showed disappointment, but, being a "good scout," she said nothing.
Sunday, she and her sister drove to Orange where they were noon dinner guests of Mrs. A. A.' Smith and family. A rabbit dinner topped with a nuge birthday cake was enjoyed.
The journey was continued to Santa Ana where Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Eaton joined Mrs. Doollin, Mrs. Andrews and Mrs. Smith on a drive to Torrance. Arriving at the R. J. Roger's home she was showered with gifts from the eldest to the youngest of the party. It was then her opinion was expressed, Another birthday cake and brick ice cream were served after the many gifts were opened, and an auto drive about the rapidly growing industrial city, Torrance, was enjoyed.
