Mr. and Mrs. George Cullen entertained Wednesday Mr. and Mrs. Helene Chadwick What is generally considered one of the greatest screen programs ever presented in this city will open at the California theater to Helene Chadwick What is generally considered one of the greatest screen programs ever presented in this city will open at the California theater tomorrow for a two-day stay. The famous picture "Gimme" featuring Helene Chadwick, Henry B. Walthall and other enlighten stars will be one feature while Buster Keaton in his side-splitting comedy, "My Wife's Relations", will be the other. In speaking of "Gimme", Adelaide Manola Hughes (Mrs. Rupert Hughes) who celebrated with her celebrated husband on this picture; has written a splendid little article entitled "Are you a Gimme Wife". It is herewith presented: "There are just as many fool men as there are fool women, financially speaking. "Is a wife to have a salary, a household wage, or an allowance? 'Allowance'—perish the silly word! 'Allowance' is what one gives one's poor relations or one's boy at school. "A wife really should come higher than that. They may seem to be quibbling on a word only; yet you can keep a good wife down by the psychological effect of a mere word. "Or is a woman happier, even though married, if she earns her own beans? "It would seem that the death knell of the clinging vine sort of woman has struck." Mrs. Hughes sums it up pretty thoroughly in these few words, and a more vivid portrayal of "Gimme" is shown in the splendid feature screen drama. On the same program with this picture will be seen that frozen faced comedian Buster Keaton. This wonder-comic is in a tremendous favorite in Anaheim, and his sweet picture, "My Wife's Relations", is a veritable picnic. If you would regale yourself with much optical entertainment, you should hike to the California and see this knock-out bill. Sunday will also be the last times that "Buffalo Bill" will be shown here. Those who have been following this absorbing drama of the frontier should not miss seeing this. A vaudeville act, and other dandy offerings including Marguerite Eves at the organ will also be featured." Every year baseball is becoming a greater and greater institution. The renumeration of the high class ballplayer is enticing the youth of the day to test out his ability in that line. Down at Elsinore, at the Angel training camp, there is a boy who paid his own expenses from Cleveland and the poor kid has failed. In the next few weeks there will be hundreds of ambitious youths have the same experience as the Cleveland boy. And "back home" in every community the home folks are interested in their boy. Just as Anaheim is interested in Doty Bush. With Marty Krug hanging around second for the Angels Doty could not hope to bust in there. At short, Boss Killifer has McCalley and Peck, a rather hard pair to displace. With Charlie Deal at third, there is absolutely no hope in that direction. So Doty is up against a very hard proposition in trying to break into the Los Angeles line-up. But he may be good enough to farm out, and will stand a good chance in that direction if his hand heals in time for Killifer to get a line on him. Rube Ellis who was to act as coach to the Los Angeles team is making too much money in the oil game to take those who crave the excitement of speeding but wagons should have their hearts desire Sunday at Beverly Course. With Jimmy Murphy, Tommy Milton, Benny Hill, Harry Hartz, Barlo Resta, Earl Cooper, Eddie Hearne, Art Klein, Ralph De Palma and Cliff Durant all tearing at one another for the honors there is bound to be plenty of action. With this great line-up of speed burners there is almost sure to be some records broken and probably some spills and broken necks. Any way, there will be thrills aplenty for everyone. Louis Angel Firpo, the Argentine fist alinger extra-ordinary, is a resort arrival in New York. Firpo has come to the U.S. to lift the crown from the manly brow of Jack Dempsey. His first step to his goal will be a battle with Bill Brennan next month. If the Angel gets by Brennan then he will be logical candidate for mix-up with Iron Mike. Walter Miller, the Los Angeles middleweight wrestler, is coming to life again. Walter wrestles a Hindo with a handle that sounds like high tenor, Basanta Singh, at the L.A.A.C., March 1st. Miller wanth a go with Sam Sandow and then he will take on champion Myers on a winner take all bats. The Big Three overlook a little man by the name of Carl Johnson who could give anyone of them a whale of a work out. FULLERTON OBTAINS BASKETBALL TITLE Fullerton H. S., champions of the northern division of Orange-co League, walked away with their game with Huntington Beach, champion of the southern division, defeating the beach lads by the score of 49 to 5. The Fullerton team was in fine condition and outclasses their rivals in every department of the game. Huntington Beach was weakened with two of their regulars participating in a dual track meet yesterday. The lineups: Fullerton 49, Huntington Beach 5 Arroyos 9, Macdus 2 Hezmilhalgh 18, Hoxsie 3 Kraemer 4, Nichols Carpenter 8, Nash Shipkey 10, G. Brewster Substitutions — For Huntington Beach: Casad. DELAY OPENING OF BASEBALL LEAGUE Opening of Orange-county baseball season has been postponed three weeks, making the season start Mar. 16. Anaheim does not play in the first game of the league having drawn a bye. P.E. Bowels, a San Francisco horse fancier paid a record price for a golding the other day. Sinbad is the name of high priced dobin, $12,000 is the price and P.W. Matthiesen of Santa Barbara is the man who received the money. Rube Ellis who was to act as coach to the Los Angeles tennis is making too much money in the oil game to take over a bank of rookies and try to make ball players out of them. As coach, Rube would have been a great asset to the Los Angeles team. Rube is the most popular man that ever played ball on the coast, and was always a great help to the youngster trying to break in. Christy Mathewson has won another hard battle, for he has struck out the white plague which threatened his life. Christy, one of the greatest pitchers of all time and the most loved man who ever played the national game, has returned to the game he knows so well. He is heading a syndicate that recently purchased the Boston Nationals. "Big Six," as president of the company, will have much to do with the destinies of the Braves. Fred Mitchell will be retained as manager but nevertheless the hand of one of the cleanest sportmen that ever lived will have much to do in the guiding of the team. With "Big Six" at the Braves are bound to be one of the popular teams in the majors. Stuffy McInnis, a member of Connie Mack's famous old Athletic field, was made a free agent by the Cleveland Indians the other day. Stuffy still has much ability and it is thought that he will become a member of the Boston Braves. Stuffy, besides being one of the greatest of first-basemen, has a remarkable record for his good behavior on and off the ball field. W.M. Adlard returned Sunday from a few days' visit with relatives in Los Angeles. Mr. and Mrs.' Earl Marshall of Los Angeles spent Sunday at the home of the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.B. Warner. G. G. LIONS HEAR OF HARBOR PLANS GARDEN GROVE, Feb. 23. At the luncheon of the Lions club Wednesday, Freeman H. The Garden Grove Feed store, for the past year under the management of W.D.Grafton and A.V.Vall of Anaheim, has been sold to St. Clair Woods of Glendale, who has taken active charge. Mr. Woods and family are making their home at Anaheim temporarily. The Orange County Jewelers' Association known as the 24-Karat Club, met in Garden Grove Tuesday evening. Following a business meeting at the Citizens Bank, the association enjoyed a splendid banquet served in the banquet room of the M.E.church, by the lades aid. Twelve members were present. W.M. Adlard returned Sunday from a few days' visit with relatives in Los Angeles. Mr. and Mrs.' Earl Marshall of Los Angeles spent Sunday at the home of the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.B. Warner.
