GOOD OIL CHEAPEST FORD FAN DECLARES
"Take no substitutes. This ancient warning," says a Ford fan, is heeded by the average man in every business transaction he enters into except the one relating to his car. Instead of genuine Ford parts, for example, he will buy something else that looks like a genuine part, but is a poor substitute at a cheaper price.
Oil is especially one of the things that Ford owners seek to economize on. Oil isn't a part, of course, but Amalie oil is just as much fitted to use in a Ford as its fender or any other part.
"Many a man will buy cheap oil until his engine sounds as it were grinding up eggshell or something worse, his gas mileage is markedly lower and his water bolls. That's poor economy, if it can be called economy at all.
"Manyy a set of bearings wouldn't have been burned out, if a good oil had been used. Many a set of valves wouldn't have had to be ground half as often.
"And a good oil holds out twice as long without renewal."
Kelly Tire Can Be Re-Treaded 2 Times
"Keep your old tires and have them re-treaded while materials are still cheap" is the advice of S. R. Walter, proprietor of the Anaheim Vulcanizing Works. Walter specializes on re-treads, and when he finishes with a tire he guarantees for from 3,000 to 10,000 more service. Recently he put the second re-tread on a Kelly-Springfield tire of which he has the exclusive distribution in Anaheim and vicinity.
Walter has one of the most up-to-date molds and tire changing equipment in Orange County. The wonderful caress of the Kelly, he says, makes it particularly well-adventured.
Maxweli in More Demand Than Ever
Calling attention to the fact that the Maxwell stood fourth in sales in Orange County during January, Turton & Lumsdon rise to remark that half of the 24 cars sold were sold by themselves. The other sales were divided up between the Fullerton and Santa Ana distributors.
The Ford stood first, then came the Chevrolet and then the Star. That is, the Maxwell was first outside the low-price cars.
Two carloads of new Maxwels, including five sport touring and five stock touring cars are expected today.
Maxwellis are becoming scarce again. The local distributors have had to scurry around to as far as Pasadena to fill their patrons' demands and make deliveries without further delay. Speedy deliveries now may be expected, as long as the 10 cars last.
Brunswick Tires Travel 36,000 Miles
Clyde Williams of Daniels & Williams, Brunswick tire distributors in Northern Orange County, was in Los Angeles this week and while there saw one Brunswick tire that had been driven 36,000 miles and another 39,000. He says he is going to have a picture of the two taken to show Brunswick fans and prospects.
A Leasa's filling station on South Los Angeles street is the latest to take on the tires in Anaheim.
The Brunswick friction-proofed tire is making a hit here now that it is becoming better known, because of its wonderful stability, safety in wet weather and ability to stand unusual as well as usual demands.
The company, which has made the best billard balls and alleys, tables, etc., to be had, to say nothing of the phone...

The service which George Ennis gives to USL battery owners he considers one of the most important features connected with the purchase of this battery. Ennis claims he can cure any battery ill there is that isn't hopeless, but prevention is better than cure, and an inspection at regular intervals will obviate expense and disagreeable surprises.
The Automotive Electric Co., of which Ennis is the proprietor, has the exclusive distribution of the USL in Anaheim and vicinity. USL is named from the United States Heat and Light Corporation, one of the largest concerns in the country. This company, because of its huge resources, can purchase in quantity and give the buyer a wonderful quality and workmanship at reasonable prices.
Used Parts Save Expense To Owners
The Pacific Salvage & Wrecking Company is more than a junk business; it is a used part and used car concern. The big lot near the Fullerton boulevard on North Los Angeles street is accumulating a quantity of stuff that fills a demand here unsatisfied before.
Car owners sometimes can save 75 per cent on a rim, for instance, a wheel, an axle or what not at this concern's place. People who want to sell a car which locks hopeless after a collision can obtain a fair price. The Pacific Salvage, in other words, is bringing together buyer and seller as never before.
With only a few weeks behind it, the company's business is growing cy leaps and bounds, and another lot
WHAT is more commendable than the worthy deeds of brawny man—the one, who through the long hours of the day, tolls away at iron and steel, tempering, bending, twisting, shaping, moulding and with consummate skill creating a useful thing of great strength and durability, for mechanical assembly.
Who fills a more worthy place in the constructive affairs of human existence; who is engaged in more honest and noble work? None. I should say and the world could say not otherwise.
There is something infinitely noble about the air of a mechanical workshop. It is the home of real, constructive work, where the honesty and industry of the workers fit so aptly into the righteousness of the place. It would suggest to one that only those of probity could dare to ask for admission to such a place. It is so useful, so praiseworthy, so indispensable, so noble that one does often wish that more of the world was made of the same stuff. That is not only my opinion about the high station that the mechanical toiler holds in this life—you remember the enraptured words of Longfellow in his Village Blacksmith.
What inspired me to write those lines? The fine, noble workshop of Knox & Mayberry at 149 South Lemon Street. To begin with two noble gentlemen run: this worthy business, H. H. Knox and M. H. Mayberry. They are always pleasant and they are dexterous, too. They have conducted their business for the past three years and they serve a large trade in Anaheim and the vicinity. Their foremost work is in connection with auto springs—they make and mend and repair. They build truck beds and they build them mighty well. They true up auto wheels and they make new auto wheels which are infinitely better than the factory made product, because they use the efficient Swartz Spider wood work. They are general blacksmiths; they carry springs for all makes of cars and of these they have the biggest supply in the county; they have complete modern equipment and their service is always prompt. Their prices are in line with good, workmanship and never higher than others. They operate the shop by themselves and they make friends by their honesty and good work.
Mr. Knox has been in this business for thirteen years, mostly in California, while his partner, Mr. Mayberry dates his experience back thirty years in Canada and the United States. Fine gentlemen, skilled workers, conscientious shopmen—they offer unexcelled service to Anaheim and the county.
Re-Conditioned Cars of Goodrum Attract
The public is inclined to purchase good used cars, says Bill Goodrum of the Anaheim Auto Co., Buick distributors. The public is becoming more confident in the ability of a good shop to refit and re-condition cars so that they represent a reliable value.
Goodrum stands for a quick turnover, and is giving the public the benefit. It is policy to do so, because time itself spells depreciation. In value, whether a car actually is used or given har service or not.
Goodrum's cars have been given a searching examination, repaired and re-painted where necessary and are absolutely guaranteed to be as represented.
His used Buicks are particularly desirable to those who want a powerful car, good on all occasions, with low upkeep.
NEW FULLERTON BANK OPENS
Fullerton Commercial and Savings Bank opened in its new quarters in the California Hotel this morning. There was a large number of visitors. F. C. Krause is president, and Fred Fuller cashier. The new bank has a capital stock of $100,000, and occupies the southeast corner of the Hotel.
Furs
Thirty million animals a year are being killed throughout the world to get enough furts to meet public demand.
The modern girl is more destructive of fur-bearing animals than was the caveman of 400,000 years ago, says H. E. Anthony, of American Museum of Natural History.
The big animals are nearly all terminated. And slaughter of the smaller ones is increasing by leaps and bounds. Fashion and vanity are rapidly bringing to an end the age of mammals which began (according to scientists) three million years ago.
