"SAVE OUR SHIRTS"
NEW S. O. S. CALL
LONDON, Feb. 16—The leading case of the pink vest, which after the second washing was mistaken for a coral necklace, soon may become only a memory.
The latest S. O. S. (save our shirt) is to be broadcast by the National Federation of Launderers after a conference with the leading shirt manufacturers here.
This action is due to a recent meeting of the National Association of Outfitters at which examples of the destruction of garments by unattended washing were shown. To this the launderers are restoring a washing formula—still secret—and will be submitted to the manufacturers with the idea that the latter should label their goods as being able to withstand the process.
There still are some, however, who maintain that there are launderers at the mere sight of whom a shirt will shrink in sheer terror, and the protests of the launderers that they use only the best materials and the greatest care are regarded as giving color to this story.
HIDES CAR 2 YEARS;
ARRESTS BUYER
Because he was afraid he would be arrested for passing a worthless check, Ramon Fuentes, who made the first payment on an automobile with a check said to be no good, placed the car in a garage in 1921 and there it remained until located today by deputy sheriffs.
Fuentes is wanted in Santa Ana. He was arrested here. According to the officers, the automobile has not been run since it was driven from Santa Ana.

Americans Can Save Millions
Of Russians With Clothing, Is
Report Made By A. R. A. Workers
A shipload of textile materials provided by relatives and friends in the United States for the ragged of Russia and the Ukraine through the clothing remittance plan of the American Relief Administration, has sailed from New York.
Forty thousand of these clothing material packages were aboard American Relief Administration workers will deliver them to the shivering in every part of Russia and the Ukraine. They will reach by fastest possible delivery the persons for whom they have been designated by the sympathetic relatives and friends in America. Other shipments will follow.
Herbert Hoover, Chairman of the A. R. A., inaugurated the clothing package system, which is similar to the food remittance that has saved millions of lives, after it had been reported to him that thousands of children were unable to face the cold Russian winter with their scanty garments and that many in almost every community could not come to the feeding kitchens to get their daily ration.
The clothing material packages may be bought from the American Relief Administration, 42 Broadway, New York City, in twenty dollar units. Purchasers may designate to whom they wish them sent and the A. R. A., will deliver them. Each twenty dollar package contains nearly five yards of dark warm wool cloth, sufficient for one suit for an adult and two garments for a child; 4 yards of lining; 16 yards of muslin sufficient for 4 suits of underwear; 8 yards of flannelette sufficient for two men's shirts or women's shirt, waists and buttons and thread to make up these garments. Packages bought for forwarding to Russia not marked for any designated individual will be given to the most needy cases, and the A. R. A. has asked for general relief gifts through this medium.

U.S. PREPARES HOT NOTE
WASHINGTON, Feb. 16. — The United States has prepared a sharp note to Great Britain denouncing the attitude of the latter government in expelling two American consuls from New Castle, England, it was learned today.
The note, signed by Secretary of State Hughes, takes no trouble to conceal the displeasure of the American government at the stand taken by Great Britain in connection with her action some months ago in cancelling the exequators, or recognition of the United States consuls at New Castle.
It is understood that Hughes shortly will publish the American note, making plain the extreme annoyance and displeasure of this government.
The New Castle incident has caused an unusual amount of friction between the two governments.
BOY ADMITS THEFT
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Feb. 16. — A boy, found huddled in a corner of the Santa Fe depot waiting room here, when questioned by officers admitted having come from El Paso, Texas, on the trucks of a passenger train and said he had been robbed of his money and ticket while asleep in the depot at El Paso. He finally said, according to the officers, "he would tell them the whole thing."
He said his name is Leon Ralph Linstrot, gave his age as 15 and his home as Wichita, Kansas. He confessed, the officers said, to having robbed a flour mill at Wichita, and more than a dozen homes in the same city. He said the jewelry obtained was turned over to his father.
As yet Heinie hasn't had the nerve to accuse the French of violating his national honor.
