"Watch Your Step"
Contains Surprises
"Watch Your Step," the new Goldwyn picture now playing at the United theatre is a smooth comedy with many surprises. The hero, played by Cullen Landis, has a mania for speed, and is cured only by a strange series of incidents that arise after he has had his one grand smash-up with a racing car. The hero's nature seems changed after this, as are his clothes (a band of tramps get them), and he takes up life in a small country town. Things are different here, especially the feminine interest added in the person of Patsy Ruth Miller. She is young, pretty and charming, and we didn't blame Cullen Landis for hanging around until the final reel. He had to meet a lot of opposition before that date he made to look at the moon. But he got what he wanted, as well as his father's forgiveness. Let us hope that his father gave him a tricycle for a wedding present instead of another racing auto.
"Watch Your Step," was directed by William Beaudine. It is a fine example of rollicking, clean comedy.

BIGGEST CROWD OF SEASON EXPECTED FOR SUNDAY GAME
With continuation of the present fine weather, the biggest crowd of the season is expected at Anaheim H.S. field Sunday afternoon for the championship game in the Double A league which is contested for between those oldtins rivals, Anaheim and Pasadena.
Twice, Anaheim has defeated Pasadena in championship baseball conflicts. Manager Loren Ury and others from the Crown City have already indicated that the game Sunday will be a battle for blood.
"You can't always win from us," Ury is quoted as saying at the conference which determined the game should be played here. The last Winter league between Anaheim and Pasadena was played at Brookside Park. Manager Billy Knott rightly insisted that this game be played in Anaheim. Ury wouldn't consider such a plan for a moment. At the weekly meeting of the So. Cal. Baseball Manager Assn., the decision was made by the flip of a coin. The coin fell right for Manager Knott.
Pasadena will be accompanied by a horde of partisans. Anaheim will have its usual royal rooting section. So, whatever else it may be, it's going to be a hotly contested ball game.

PLAY SATURDAY SO
ALL MAY SEE GAME
Coach Irene Jacques is putting her basketball girls thru hard training this year for the So. Calif. championship game with Santa Monica Saturday on the seaside court. The guards are showing some real speed in these practice plays. The forwards are still able to toss that ball like professionals. The centers are in the best trim ever. The first team player's remain the same, Ella Cook, Frances Adams, Mae Requarth, Esther Hile, Irma Young Helen Daly, Viola Lensing, Evelyn Cordes.
Coach Jacques' babes will play Santa Monica second team, Rosie Labourdette, star forward, is on the sick list but is hoping to be able to go to the game. Anaheim stands a chance to win if this little whiz plays. However, Coach Jacques will have a number of subs on hand.
The game is being played Saturday to enable the students of the Hi School to go to the game, as well as townspeople who are interested in the girls. Both teams are regarding rules these days and the girls were never in better condition.
Lightweight players are Frances Nelson, Marie Hoch, Rosie Laboudette, forwards; Alice Longgeval, Grace Holsworth, Frances Murch, Florence Finley, centers; Ruta Baumgartie, Edith John, Catherine Shea, Charleen Smith, guards.
PRACTICE BASKETBALL
A large number of the gym girls turned out for the meeting last evening. Popular games were played and the girls practiced considerably at basketball. The emeting next week will be held Tuesday instead of Thursday.

The team, of which W. E. Alnow is captain, is new and althou there has been little chance to develop team work, the locals are going to put up a strong fight and think they have a dandy chance of walloping Long Beach. Henry Hodges and Joe Schwlenfest support the Mother Colony school with the negative side of the question at Fullerton.
The debaters and coach, Miss Luille Brickley, are hard at work. Anaheim is leading the league by a large margin and has a good chance of winning county honors.
HUNTINGTON BEACH DEFEATS SANT AANA
Huntington Beach Hi defeated Santa Ana 5 to 4 in a practice baseball game at Santa Ana last evening. The game was called at the fifth inning owing to darkness. The Beach city team bunched their hits, making the victory. Santa Ana scored one point in the first inning, two n the third and one in the fourth.
Big Scenes With Fine Players in “Ebb Tide”
A desperate fight with an octopus, a breath-taking storm at sea, scenes of pearl divers at work and overlaying it all the remarkably human characters of Robert Louis Stevenson and Luoyd Osborne—such are the high lights of "Eb Tide," a new George Melford Paramount picture, which comes to the California Theatre tomorrow.
The finely drawn characters which are so truly Stevensonian divide interest so equally in the story that Mr. Melford, instead of featuring any one or two players, has assembled a notable cast, all of whom are of "star" or near-star rank in their own right. The women are Lila Lee and Jacqueline Logan.
The men include James Kirkwood, Raymond Hatton, George Pawcett and Noah Beery. All are members of the recently organized Parameunt Stock Company players.
As in the case of "Burning Sands," beautiful exterior scenes are the most important feature of "Ebb Tide." A Pacific island was chosen for the locale and transformed into a tropical isle. Mr. Melford, with

FAST BOXING CARD AT ARBITA CLUB
The Urbita Athletic Club of San Bernardino has a crackerjack boxing program lined up for Thursday night. Billy Darnley, local club manager, who is the San Bernardino club's matchmaker, is taking over that fast little darky, Young Barton for a return match with Jimmy Douglas, Phoenix lightweight in the main event. In the semi-windup, Young Terry, hard-hitting Whittler 142-pounder, will once again tangle with his old rival, Scotty Diest. This will be their fifth meeting. Terry holds two wins, Diest one and there was one draw. In the special event, Jake Poole, Covina 118-pounder tangles with that scrappy Los Angeles sprout, Art Springer, Johnny Nandes hooks up with Benny Means at 125 pounds, Young Reff vs. Gil Davis and Louie Barney, 'Speedy' Stewart at 115 pounds.
HUNTINGTON BEACH WINNER SOUTH-END
Coach Black's Huntington Beach Hi boys basketball team won the championship of the So. Calif. Orange county and now is ready to tackle the winner of the north half which in all probability will be Fullerton. The winner of this will play for Se. Calif. honors.
The beach squad: Hoxsie, Terry, Seltzer, Maddux, Nicholas, Nash; Brewster.
