SCOTT AGENT FOR LA HABRA HEIGHTS
Harry E. Scott, realtor, has been appointed by Edwin G. Harv as the Anaheim representative for La Habra Heights, a new tract in that locality.
Ten miles from Anaheim, reached by an orange-lined boulevard, is La Habra, a business center and an island of pretty residences entirely surrounded by citrus groves. Directly to the north is the tract of 2600 acres known as La Habra Heights, whose slopes and hillsides are being planted to avocados and citrus trees, and meanwhile are producing a really marvelous crop of vegetables with freedom from frost or injurious wind and under conditions as to soil and water are equivalent to an insurance policy if success. Where a few years since sheep ranged in solititude, terraces are being constructed that will transform apparently "impossible" hillsides into copies of the world-famous, pictuesque, terraced citrus groves of Italy and Spain. A water supply has been developed that, in conjunction with the extraordinary fertility of the soil and the warmth of the southern exposure, makes possible winter gardens that produce as much as $1,000 an acre in rhubarb and peppers and a good profit in tomatoes, cucumbers and peas, between the rows of trees that in a few years will yield even greater annual returns.

INTEREST FROM TAX
Under a ruling received yesterday by Collector of Internal Revenue Box Goodell, an individual may exclude from gross income the dividends or interest during the calendar year 1922 from a building and loan association to an amount not in excess of $300. The decision affects thousands of members of such organizations.
In order to show that these dividends and interest are exempt from tax the return must be supported by a statement from an officer of the association that it is operated exclusively for the purpose of making loans to members. Dividends distributed by building and loan associations in excess of $300 may be credited against net income for the purposes of normal tax, as in the case of dividends received any other domestic corporation. Under no circumstances, however, may any part of the $300 which is excluded from gross income be credited for normal tax purposes. Interest received from a domestic building and loan association in excess of $300 is subject to both normal tax and surtax.
