Conservation of the Nation's timber supply is well worth the attention of statesmen and administrators at Washington. President Harding has come out strongly for conservation. PROSPERITY SHOWN BY BANKS California state banks continue to thrive prodigiously. In the period between September 15 and December 29, 1922, as shown by report of Jonathan S. Dodge, state superintendent of banks, assets of state banks increased nearly $116,000,000. Deposits gained more than $12,000,000 in that period, and notes against the banks were reduced nearly $6,000,-000. It is interesting to note, too, that the number of depositors having accounts in state banks in California was 2,661,648. Add to this the number who have deposits in national banks and in other financial institutions, and it is seen that Californians are very generally and generously represented in bank deposits.
