VALENTINE MOTIF ADORNS SALEATS HOME FOR PARTY MRS. ALPHONSE SALEATS, 817 North Los Angeles-st., entertained a few of her friends yesterday afternoon in honor of her birthday. The attractive valentine motif was used, both in the living room and at the dining table. Visiting and discussing old times gave great pleasure. The guests were invited to the dining rooms about 3:30, for luncheon. The table was pretty indeed, with its snowy cloth and valentine adornments. Place cards marked covers for Mrs. L. C. Spencer, Mrs. A. F. Minder, Mrs. J. R. Viosca, Mrs. George Click, Mrs. F. A. Chamberlain and Mrs. Saleats. The guessing contest was won by Mrs. Spencer who received a bottle of perfume as a prize. Club with Mrs. Spencer The Orangethorpe Embroidery club was entertained at the home of Mrs. M. A. Spencer yesterday afternoon, the ladies keeping themselves busy for a time with their fancy work. Piano music enlivened the entertainment. Mrs. Spencer served tasty refreshment to her guests about 4:30. Although the attendance was somewhat lessened by illness the eight ladies present passed a very delightful afternoon together. The number included the Mesdames Hugh Bell, Hangood, Charles Smith, Audison, Johnson, B. F. Spencer, James A. Schultze. The next meeting will be held the second Thursday in March at the home of Mrs. Bell and Mrs. Hangood. To Banquet at Ambassador A number of Anaheim employees Twenty Play Euchre Euchre club members passed a pleasant afternoon over enchere yesterday when they met with Mrs. Nellie Wagner, on N. Lemon-st. There were five tables of players. Mrs. Siemaun won first prize, Mrs. Dresser, second and Mrs. Backs, consolation. There were four suballitutes, Mrs. W. E. Duckworth, Mrs. Joe Carroll, Mrs. Wan, J. Siemann, and Miss Lillian Bennerscheldt. Members present were Mrs. Fred Backs, Mrs. F. C. Grim, Mrs. J. J. Dwyer, Mrs. George Hamler, Mrs. Simon Lybarger, Mrs. John Hartung, Mrs. Hugo Strodhoff, Mrs. M. L. Bradley, Mrs. A. Schulte, Mrs. Wm. Falkenstein, Mrs. Arthur Lewis, Mrs. J. J. Cole, Mrs. F. C. To Banquet at Ambassador A number of Anaheim employees and others of the Union Oil Co. living in Orange co are making reservations for the banquet and dance to be given tomorrow evening at the Ambassador Hotel, Los Angeles. The Union Oil Co. is extending this courtesy to their employees and a large crowd is planned. Many delightful features are on the program. Friends Enjoy Cards Mr. and Mrs. M. W. Martenet entertained a coterie of five hundred players last evening at their home S. Los Angeles-It. High score was made by Mrs. Tausch and Mr. Nowotny, with Mrs. Martenet and Mr. Erickson receiving consolation. A two course luncheon followed the games. However, those who did brave the disagreeable weather were well repaid and greatly enjoyed the time in social chatter, having abandoned the study period. Mrs. Mauerhan had provided herself with delicious refreshment which was served later. French Dinner Served Mr. and Mrs. C. N. Bahrenberg entertained a company of relatives of 7 o'clock dinner last evening, serving in four courses. The table was pretty, indeed, with the valentine decorations, place markers, favors and centrepiece all being in the favored color. A dinner of French menu was elaborately served and heartily enjoyed. After dinner little Norma Bahrenberg entertained with solo dancing, and later the children of the party danced together. F. Steelhead yesterday afternoon in the Steinmann apartments, was an occasion of particular pleasure to the several ladies who were the fortunate recipients of invitations. In keeping with the valentine season, artistic arrangement of hearts and the ever admired warm red shades was noted. At the Novak home real Italian dishes were served. Valentines marked each cover with a personal message in vere to the lady at that plate. Reading these aloud gave much pleasure. After the repast Mrs. Steelhead, who is an artist of particular merit on the piano, gave a generous number of selections, to the intense pleasure of her guests. The congenial sexet included the Mesadems George Paige, Forrest Henze, C. N. Bahrenberg, P. H. McCloskey and the two hostesses, Mrs. Novak and Mrs. Steelhead. Coterie with Mrs. Groos With cards the center of interest and Mrs. Richard Groos the hostess, the Coterie club met yesterday for another of the pleasant afternoons at which a dozen ladies gather each month for their favorite pastime. The valentine colors were prettily displayed with the flaming poinsettias, which seem prone to give way to early spring flowers this season. Red hearts and score cards added to the motif. Seated about the tables were the Mesdemes Vic La Mont, Fred Mang, Wm. A. Lake, C. D. Harrison, Henry Heying, Henry Husmann, Hernan Schindler, Henry Schindler, Jessie Black, Frank, Mauer, Joe Stroup and Rosa Van Horn. Prizes were won by Mrs. Mauer first. Crowd Entertains Another delightful gathering of "the Missouri crowd" occurred Wednesday afternoon when a coterie of ladies were the guests of Mrs. Henry Heying. The party was in honor of Mrs. F. H. Kallmyer who with her husband has recently come from Glasco. Conversation and music featured the afternoon ours. In the late afternoon Mrs. Heying served a delicious luncheon from her dining table which was pretty trimmed with valentine motifs for the occasion. Guests of Mrs. Heying included Mrs. P. H. The club will meet next month with Mrs. Houts. Idaho Relatives Visit Mr. and Mrs. A.E. Home from Convention Mrs. Harold H Knox, Mrs. W. E. Bartlett, and Mrs. T. O. Mock have returned to their homes in Anaheim after having attended the meeting of the Southern Pacific district meetings of the Baptist missionary society held in the auditorium of the First Baptist church, Los Angeles. They report a very successful meeting, well attended by the churches of the southern district. Big Turnout at Section That the Literary Section is one of the most popular at the Ebell club departments was evidenced yesterday when the attendance at the session held with Mrs. P. G. Peck, was almost more than "a capacity" crowd. The ladies were reminded at the meeting of the pressing need of the encustomed clubhouse. The section is growing rapidly in numbers as well as in interest. The program yesterday was successfully given in charge of Mrs. Frederick R. Schiller. The book, Jean Christophe, by ine French author, was reviewed by Mesdames C. W. Hedges, H. R. Grove, C. W. Austin, Newman Sanford, T. L. DeCaw, Lee Bévier and Miss Elise Jessurun, all of which were of highest merit. The short story by Mrs. John Johnson was delightfully received, as were reviews of other recent books. Mrs. N. C.
