Another step has been taken toward development by the Lesser Oil Co., near Hanson. Rumor has it that the company has changed hands again, and it looks like the new manager means business. They have gone so far as to paint the smoke-stack and another meeting has been called by the company for tonight at the O. P. Bunyard home. Leases were extended recently until March 31, and by that time the company will have to "spud-in." A former bookkeeper of the Standard Oil Co., at the main offices of the company near Miami, Okla., says that Cypress and Buena Park as well as Santa Fe Springs leases have been in the books for many years, some dating back 30 years ago. This may be telling secrets outside of school, so names are not divulged. However, the man has been in the field 30 days and has purchased three ranches in the immediate vicinity of Cypress. FAMISHED ELK FEED ON STACKED HAY DEADWOOD, S. D.-John Guidinger, a rancher living about one mile from the South Dakota boundary line in Wyoming, is having difficulty saving his hay supplies from a herd of about 150 elk which are roaming the region near his ranch. Guidinger has stacked his hay and had surrounded it with fences, but the famished elk break through the fences with ease and attack his haystacks. He says the state of Wyoming refuses to reimburse him for his hay losses. It is against the law to kill elk, so he is confronted with a serious problem, being in danger of losing all his hay supplies unless he constantly stands guard over his stacks. Six year ago O. G. Willett, former state senator, was found to have leprosy, contracted. It is believed, during big service as a soldier in the Philippines. When he was banished from society his wife followed him into exile and since that time they have lived in a bungalow near the little town of Alberton, Mont. Albertson is in Minneapolis, whose people Sen. Willett once represented in the state assembly. The wireless at was recently installed by Lieut. Alexander, a radio expert at Ft. Missoula, Mont. With another soldier and Mayor W. H. Beacon of Missoula, he visited the leper camp after obtaining permission from the state board of health to enter the enclosure. The antennae were strung from the bungalow to the top of a lofty pine about 150 feet distant. Before he left Missoula, Lieut. Alexander had tested the set and found that he was able to "pick up" Los Angeles, San Francisco and Nome, Alaska. Contribution from his friends in his home county made possible the installation of the set. WORLD'S SHORTEST RAILWAY PT. ST.
