CONCENTRATE ON JORDAN NEW POLICY Concentration on the Jordan car is going to enable the J. E. Walter Company, local distributors, to provide a service even superior to that hitherto, a representative of the local distributors said here today. For a considerable time the firm handled the Chandler and Cleveland cars, also. The handsome showrooms at East Center and North Olive-sts are being redecorated, and patrons as usual won't have to wait for deliveries or service, either, unless orders get too congested, which sometimes happens. Testimonials and demonstrations to the limit. G. C. GRIFFIN NEW BRANCH MANAGER G. C. Griffin has been appointed branch manager of Townsend & Medbury, Hudson and Essex distributors, to succeed H. R. Grove. The latter has gone to Fullerton as distributor. Griffin has had considerable experience in the Santa Ana field and comes here prepared to uphold the Hudson and Essex name to the full. Yesterday we wrote our thoughts which were taken by strangers then given to our dear ones and how welcome these messages were. Today we may speak directly to our friends 3000 miles away and they, without leaving their homes and with no one's aid but their own, can hear us. Often the artists who are rendering the Times concerts will sing to mother or other dear ones. Radio of today does all this and because it is so widespread, The Plain Dealer has made arrangements with Mr. R. Thistlewhite, electrical and radio instructor of Jefferson high school, Los Angeles, to answer any question relating to this wonderful means of transmitting musical art of the highest character, educational lectures and religious sermons into thousands of homes. Q—About how far can a crystal set receive and what do they cost? Can they be used with a loud speaker? A—For concert work the range of a crystal set is about 25 miles under good conditions. They cost about $10 and up including headphones. A crystal set cannot be used with a loud speaker. Q—Can you give me the name of a good receiving set? A—We cannot give the names of manufactured sets? PEAT DIGGERS FIND OLD WOODEN CLOCK LONDON — Leading European archaeologists express the opinion that a woolen garment discovered by peat-cutters in erum Fen, near Skara, Sweden, is one of the oldest ever found in Europe. It lay only a few feet under the surface of the peat, but the preserving qualities of the fen water kept it intact, scientists believe, for about 3,000 years. The garment resembles a cloak. Although it is said to be the first garment ever found, the British museum possesses several pieces of cloth dating from even earlier periods. ANOTHER PLAGUE THREATENS RUSSIA MOSCOW—Alarming reports are reaching the government here of how spread of locusta in the agricultural sections. In one province alone tens of thousands of acres are threatened. In the meantime, experiments are under way with a view of rendering the locust harmless to crops. Prof. Kolzor, a famous Russia biologist, has succeeded in transplanting whole beads of locusta. A female locust whose head was exchanged for that of a male two weeks ago is still living. It inherited some of the male habits, at the same time, however, keeping its purely feminine abilities. The professor is now trying to devise some way of utilizing his experiments for the relief of the farmer. So far, he has been baffled.
