WARM TABERNACLE BY GAS RADIATORS Although the temperature was cold last night and rain was falling, the big tabernacle was warm and cozy. The new gas radiators are a wonderful help. The singing was good. The people are learning a number of new songs. The subject of the evening was "The Second Mile," Matthew 5:41: "Whosoever compel thee to go one mile go with him twain (two)" Evangelist Vawter referred to the law of the old Roman taxgatherers. After paying the tax one of the Jewish people had to take the tax gatherer to the next town. The injunction given was "Keep the law, then do more." "Religiously appiled, the first mile is; we are legally bound to do all that God has commanded. Study the Scriptures, believe, repent, confess Christ's name, be baptized, go to church, give as God has prosper us. But God commanded the second mile so it is really in the first mile. In the second mile is the prayer meeting." Evangelist Vawter said, "We treat our autos better than we treat our souls. When our batteries run down we get them recharged but are not go particular about our souls." "The Second School comes in the second mile and everything else that is a means of grace to us and to help some one else. Plans are being made to have a great Sunday school at the tabernacle Sunday morning. Special music is announced for tonight. VIGIL CONCLUDED BY OFFICERS' VISIT PHOENIX, Ariz., Feb. 2.—George Stevenson, whose family for nine days claimed he was only in a state of "suspended animation", was official declared dead last night by County Health Officer Harry J. Felch, who was accompanied by a representative of the coroner. The two broke through the door which has barred all intruders from the little family circle in the morgue guarding the body and patiently waiting for it to shake off its state of "suspended animation," and return to life, purged of disease. Ground Hog Radios Winter Will Linger Winter is going to linger! At least the ground hog sent a radio to that effect this morning after he had wakened, yawned, stretched and started out of doors after his winter's sleep to view the prospects for the coming season, for there it was—his shadow—the instant he stepped out doors. No putting on a clean collar, twitching his tie, bandolining his hair and doing the other little niceties common to the "fellows" for he knows that to see his shadow on the morning of Feb. 2nd at 10 o'clock, is a sign that winter is yet six weeks away. So he went back into the hole, pulled the hole in after him and went to sleep for another six weeks. NORTH DAKOTANS PICNIC Formor residents of North Dakota picnic in Sycamore Grove Park, Los Angeles, all day, Saturday, Feb. 3rd. Picnickers are asked by the officers to come early, bring basket dinners and they will supply hot coffee. County registers will be in place and a great time is sure. The thousands of tourists here are urged to meet old friends. The two broke through the door which has barred all intruders from the little family circle in the morgue guarding the body and patiently waiting for it to shake off its state of "suspended animation," and return to life, purged of disease. The entrance to the room caused a dramatic outburst by Mrs. O. H. Mitchell, who thrice warned: "Touch that body and you fall dead." Examination proceeded, however, The body was found in an advanced stage of decomposition, but physicians were amazed to find but little odor present. OLD FRAME SCHOOL BUILDING BURNED LOS ANGELES, Feb. 2. — Flames which swept the historic Griffin-ave school yesterday and completely destroyed the three story structure, causing a loss of at least $50,000, were the work of incendaries, according to a theory of detectives who investigated the fire. As a result of the blaze, which started about 4 o'clock, several hundred children who had been attending the institution, were without a school home today and had to be hurriedly assigned to one nearby schools.
