VAWTER MEETINGS GROW IN INTEREST Fine crowds are continuing to attend the meetings at the Big Tabernacle. The music is fine and the members of the chorus are nightly in their places. Last night Miss Reaves sang the solo with a pathos that was touching to the hearts of the audience. The subject of the evening was "The Estimate of Nicodemus". The evangelist, considered the estimate of Jesus by Nicodemus. The question considered; was Nicodemus worthy of judging? "He came to Jesus after a busy day of teaching to discuss the things of eternal life. He faced the mob that was trying to destroy Jesus and argued them out of their purpose thus showing his fearlessness. After the crucifying of Christ, Nicodemus and one other cane and asked for the body. "Was Nicodemus capable of judging?" asked the evangelist. "He was, for he was one of the wisest teachers of the Jews and he watched what Jesus did and heard what he had to say. Nicodemus decided that Jesus was sent from God, that he was the Christ. He decided from the words of the prophets and saw that Jesus fulfilled these prophesies." Another big service was announced for tonight. G. & L. LEASE G. & L. ANAHEIM SHELL GETS 6000-BARREL DEEP WELL With Oil Operators Huntington Beach is becoming just one wonder after another in the way of oil producers. When the Amalgamated Oil Co. a few weeks ago brot in the world record deep producer at 4949 it was thought that would hold the field for a while. Now the Shell Co. comes along with a well that showed 6000 barrels. Huntington Beach's biggest producer was drilled on the Ashton property, an old producer redrilled and deepened. It the early history of the field Ashton I becomes famous as producer in the upper zone. Deepened to 4750 feet the well started off with the modest output of 2500 barrels. The production started climbing and it was only a few days until the well was flowing at the rate of 6000 barrels. On account of shortage of storage and pipe line facilities the big producer had to be cut back to 3800 barrels. This great well has over 1800 feet of oil bearing formation back of it and will undoubtedly make a record for long life production. The Moore Syndicate is now listed with the Huntington Beach producers. The Syndicate after a checked career, all the hard luck that is known to the oil business and other troubles of no less degree has emerged with a 1600 barrel well. The Moore Syndicate completed its well in the deep sand finishing it at 4600 feet and getting a 26 gravity producer. Two companies at Montebello are not satisfied with their wells and will make better ones out of them. The Pan-American Petroleum Co. completed a well on the Pasadena lease recently at 4100 feet and put on production. Water prevented the well from making anything like a satisfactory showing. The Pan-American will shut off the water and return the well to commercial production by cementing a strong of 4% at 3960. The Standard Oil Company's deep BORN SANS LEGS; GOOD MAIL DRIVER WASHINGTON—Natural handicaps are not obstacle to many people. A shining example is that of B. A. Jones of Burlington, Mo., who, born without legs, has driven a rural mail delivery out of that town for twenty years and never complained. Jones' route was a standard-length one of 25.5 miles out of Burlington and since 1901, when he was appointed he has missed only four days from the job, and those because of illness. So interested were the postoffice department officials, who only recently had his case called to their attention, that Assistant Postmaster General Billany wrote him a letter of congratulation for his efficient service "performed in spite of a physical defect that well might have discouraged a person of less fortunate temperament, and with less determination to succeed in life." Before becoming a letter carrier, Jones was a farmer. and has been making 100 feet a day. The log of No. 1 is checking up about 300 feet shallower than No. 1. The Union Oil Company's Community test well at Downey has passed the 4800 foot mark without finling any very encouraging oil showing. The drilling is going nicely in hard sand. Most operators being getting a little discouraged when a well passes the 5100 foot mark and no oil in right. Such is not the case of the Pomona Oil Company now drilling the deepest test well ever drilled in San Bernardino county. The Pomona Oil Company's well at the close of the week showed a depth of 5110 feet, the formation a hard sand shale that carried just enough gas and oil colors to make the management want to continue drilling. The Pomona Oil Company it is understood intends to carry the drilling on to 5500 feet and make an exhaustive test well. The Crittenden well in the San Jose Hills did not materialize last week as scheduled. On drilling out the cement it was found that a co- Two companies at Montebello are not satisfied with their wells and will make better ones out of them. The Pan-American Petroleum Co. completed a well on the Pasadena lease recently at 4100 feet and put on production. Water prevented the well from mmaking anything like a satisfactory showing. The Pan-American will shut off the water and return the well to commercial production by cementing a strong of 4% at 3960. The Standard Oil Company's deep test west line well Howard & Smith made a nice showing at 4385, developed some water, and efforts are being made to free the well from this trouble and put under the best possible production conditions. The spectacular feature of the development well at Bellflower has subsided and the Cal-Petro Oil Producers Syndicate pioneers of the field have settled down to straight line drilling. A few days ago the Syndicate started its second well. No. 1 is drilling in a very hard formation at 2800 feet and making slow progress. No. 2 spudded in last week.
