SCHEDULE ADOPTED IN ORANGE LEAGUE 9 BASEBALL TEAMS
Nine teams, representing as many high schools, will fight out this spring for the baseball championship of the Orange league. The season will begin Friday, Feb. 23, earlier than the pennant chase has started here in many years.
The above action was taken when Orange league representatives gathered to map out a baseball schedule for the season.
It was agreed that the league consist of nine teams, Santa Ana, Fullerton, Whittier, Orange, Anaheim, Huntington Beach, Garden Grove, San Juan Capistrano and Tustin.
The winner will be determined on the percentage basis of games won and lost. At the close of the penchant scramble the teams which finish first and second in the league standing will play a "two out of three" series for the championship and the right to contest for the So Calif. championship. The league game played between the two top clubs will count as one game in this final series.
With all but two members of last year's strong team, which tied with Fullerton and Anaheim for the title, eligible for competition again this year, indications are that Coach "Spud" Morrison of Santa Ana will have one of the strongest outfits in the Orange league ranks.
The league schedule adopted yesterday follows:
February 23.—Anaheim, bye; San Juan Capistrano at Whittier; Fullerton at Tustin; Garden Grove at Santa Ana; Huntington Beach at Orange.
March 2—San Juan Capistrano at Anaheim; Whittier at Fullertion; Tustin at Garden Grove; Santa Ana at Huntington Beach; Orange, bye.
March 9—Anaheim at Fullertion; Garden Grove at Whittier; Huntington Beach at Tustin; Orange at Santa Ana; San Juan Capistrano, bye.
March 16—Anaheim at Garden Grove; Fullertion at San Juan Capistrano.

FIELD MEET WILL GO TO FULLERTON

ANAHEIM DEFEATS FULLERTON FIVE IN FAST GAME 24-16
Coach Ray Elliott's string of basketball players worked havoc with Fullerton Athletic club quintet last evening defeating them 24 to 18. The older boys were heavy and slow. Anaheim's players were wherever the ball was. Hawkins, former Fullerton H. S. star and veteran player, starred for the visitors and furnished considerable action. The Anaheim lads deserve credit for establishing a victory over these players.
Anaheim: Pohlmann and Ross, forwards; Wallace, center; Newkirk and Janus, guards. Substitutions, Hile for Newkirk, Wallace for Hile and Newkirk for Wallace.
Fullerton players; Hawkins and Deland, forwards; Pettigrew, center; Meisner and Hitchcock, guards. Subs, Sherwood for Pettigrew; Yorba for Melser; Travis for Hitchcock; Kaiser, for eLand; Schulz for Kelsler.
A prelim event was the scramble of the Tustin and Anaheim bantam squads. Anaheim completely walked away from Tustin, leaving them the small end of a 31 to 8 score. This game was only a practise fray. Players: Sweeney and Gliss, forwards; Shea and Bastian, guards; Cate, center. Substitutions, Lewis for Gliss, Bastian for Cate; Easton for Shea; Jayne for Bastian, Wright for Jayne.
Tustin squad: Tricky and Whitney, forwards; Harris, center; Cardiel and Crawford, guards; Subs, Hickey doe Cardiel, Lindsey for Whitman, Bonney for Trickey.

WORLD RECORD FOR DEEP PRODUCTION
(With Oil Operators)
Huntington Beach sighed a new world record when the Amalgamated Oil Company brought in a producer at a depth of 4949. This is now the deepest commercial oil producer in the world. The well is located on the Pearce property and is making 2800 barrels of 28 gravity oil. The Amalgamated Oil company's Miley-Keck No. 19 at 4939 formerly held the deep record production. The completion of the famous Pearce well marks the sixth deep well the Amalgamated has completed in the past six weeks. These deep wells run all the way from 4700 to 4949 and represents a new era in oil development.
The Golden Dome Oil company seems to have a hard time in getting a producer at Huntington. The company started drilling soon after the field opened up, and the well as it now stands represents two years of hard work. The well was first completed at 3315 and at that depth took on many of the indications of a producer, it flowed some and made a lot of gas. On redrilling and deepening the well to 3375 a million foot gasser resulted.
The Standard Oil Co.'s B-14, the biggest well now on production at Huntington Beach is proving a wonder. Completed a few weeks ago at 4080 barrels, the big producer has increased its flow to 4350 barrels, the gas pressure continues to rise, and the well is making high gravity clean oil. The Standard's Farnsworth No. 1 at 4860 had to re-cement few days. The gas showings are very marked. The gas has been tested and it is a petroleum gas. It is believed that this gas must be coming from an oil sand. At times the tools show quite a little oil. The drilling is making splendid progress, and with the new and encouraging showings the Pomona Oil Co. may yet sprink ga great surprise.
The Keck Syndicate No. 4-1 is one of the great wells of the Long Beach field. This well was competed a week ago at 3825 feet and started off at 5000 barrels. The well has settled to 4600 barrels and is one of the greatest wells the field has yet produced. The great Keck well is located on property that a year ago would not be given a consideration for oil property.
The moving picture people got into the oil business when Carl Maier brought in his Brayton well. The Brayton well was financed largely by moving picture interests. The "Movie" well was completed at 3285 feet and made a 3000 barrel producer. The Brayton well is making 25 gravity oil and making clean production.

The Germans apparently were not taken into custody but were told to consider themselves under arrest.

SUPERIOR, Wis., Jan. 17.—With more than 1000 wolves already to his credit and with this year's total of dead wolves to be compiled, Edward Johnson of this city has laid claim to the world's wolf killing honors.
Since boyhood Johnson has lived the life of the outdoors and has studied the habits of the wolves, who can rightly claim Johnson as their greatest enemy. Johnson does his wolf killing systematically. Then lures are carefully prepared and each trap is set with a skill that years of experience have taught him.

New Departure in Baby Chick Advertising
WITH THIS issue of the Orange County Plain Dealer we are starting the publication of a series of advertisements which we will publish on the 1st., and 15th., of each month during the months of February, March, April and May. It is our intention, in this series, if possible to come in closer touch with the Baby Chick purchasing public in the neighborhood of Anaheim than would be possible in a series of strictly formal advertising.
We shall try to make this series interesting and instructive, and while calling attention to the merits of our chicks, present helpful suggestions in the care and management of baby chicks which our twelve years of experience has led us to believe to be the most practical. We shall try to make these advertisements a "SUPERIOR EGG FARM NEWS" in every sense of the word, news from one of Southern California's most successful poultry ranches.
