NORTHWEST SIDE OF
FIELD DEVELOP
(With Oil Operators)
The most important development at Santa Fe Springs for the past week was the beginning of the development into production of the northwest side of the field. The Standard Oil Co., on the Santa Gertrudes Land Co.'s property brought in a 2800 barrel well at 3890. This new producer is making 27 gravity oil and relieves a lot of anxiety relative to the northwest side and brings a lot of questionable property into the productive area. The Standard Oil Co.'s Pacific Clay Pipe No. 2 has passed the 4700 foot mark and is the most important well drilling now on the north side of the field. The Standard Oil company is doing the wildcat work on the north and west side of the field and is to be congratulated on the splendid work it is doing and the splendid results it is getting.
The Bison Oil Co. has proven at Meyer No. 4 that the big Meyer lease is a great oil property. Oil was discovered on the Meyer lease ten years ago, but the discovery well did not make much of an impression on account of it being so deep and coming in a small well. The new well Meyer 4 was completed at 4700 feet and is making 1750-barrels. The oil is 35 gravity, clean, free from water, making the new Meyer producer a truly great well. The Union Oil Co. in addition to having five wells drilling on the Meyer property has made 7 new locations and plans an extensive developments. The Meyer property is deep production, but yields high gravity wells, and good ones. Mr. F. F. Hill now manager of the field department of the Union Oil company is the one man responsible for the Meyer property coming into production at all. Meyer No. 3 proved as the discovery well one of the hardest wells to drill in the state. It took two years to get the hole down and had it not been for Mr. Hill's stick-totiveness and encouragement the Union Oil company would have abandoned the well.
Machris Brothers have acquired a habit of bringing in big producers at Santa Fe Springs. Their latest success is Landl1 No. 1 a well that started off at 5000 barrels. The Landl1
Tremendous Scenes In Fairbanks Movie
When Douglas Fairbanks began his great new production, "Douglas Fairbanks in Robin Hood," his latest photoplay for United Artists release, and which is coming to the Fairland Theatre next Sunday, the first scene shot was an Interior, and Paul Dickey, playing Sir Guy of Gisbourne the villain, killed a man nine times. It all happened in Richard Couer de Lion's tent, on the road to the Holyland with the Third Crusade.
This tent was an "all-drape set," combining the principles brought out by Gordon Craig in England, Max Reinbart in Berlin and Robert Jones in this country—representing the world's greatest triumvirate of stage decorators. In spite of the fact that this set was forty feet deep, forty feet wide and twenty-four feet high, it was put up in two hours.
"In starting this production," said Allan Dwan, who directed Mr. Fairbanks in this feature, "we felt much as we did when we went to the Grand Canyon several years ago to make scenes for "The Modern Musketeer." We didn't undertake to photograph the canyon at once—its magnitude appalled us. It was so vast, so big. So we played around the corrals for the first few days, photographing scenes featuring the horses and mules. Finally we got up courage enough to take a crack at the canyon.

RETIRED TEACHERS
PAY RAISE ASKED
Teachers of California, 20,000 strong, under leadership of the Teachers' Association of San Francisco, recently took first steps to increase the retirement salary of California teachers from -500 to $726 per year.
Will C. Wood, state superintendent of public instruction, announced at Sacramento that he had received a letter from Miss E. E. Spence, head of the San Francisco association, outlining plans for amending the state teachers' retirement salary law to permit the increase.
The teachers, in asking the increase voluntarily offer to increase their own assessments to the retirement fund. They pay $1 per month each to the fund but they will under the new scheme pay a flat $2 yearly. The state, which now gives percent of the inheritance tax on retirement fund is called upon to contribute an amount equal to the contributions of teachers. The state, it was estimated by the teachers, will be called upon for an increased expenditure of $290,000 yearly.
ANAREIM
There is a beautiful city, far out in the West.
Could you only afford a short stay in the place.
Your sad hearts, it would surely gladden.
Its buildings are fine.
Its beauties, you can hardly imagine.
Its climate, sublime.
Its young of its age, but wide in its fame and its name is Anaheim.
Anaheim, Oh., Anaheim.
The home of the care worn and free.
Anaheim is a beautiful city.
My future home hope it shall be.
For the young and the gay, the old and the gray.
Its buildings are fine.
Its beauty, you can hardly imagine.
Its climate, sublime.
Its young of its age, but wide in its fame and its name is Anaheim.
Anaheim, Oh, Anaheim.
The home of the care worn and free.
Anaheim is a beautiful city,
My future home hope it shall be.
For the young and the gay, the old and the gray.
Its equal will seldom be seen.
Where it's children are free, as you plainly will see,
As you ride in your Limousine.
As you sit in its glorious sunshine,
And partake of its golden fruit,
You will think of your eastern brother or.
Wading the snow, with his high boots,
As you gaze on the snow capped mountains,
Towering high up in the skies.
Only then will you begin to imagine
What the name, "Anaheim," implies.
Anaheim, Oh, Anaheim.
Just a little way's back from the sea.
When I hear the name Anaheim mentioned
Its sounds like "home," to me.
Anaheim, Oh Anaheim,
I wish I once more was a boy,
I'm sure that life would be worth living,
For its pleasures, I sura would enjoy.
Where the banks, are bulging with wealth
Which the country around it produces,
Its beautiful maidens cannot be excelled,
And the fences are covered with roses.
With its beautiful orchards, all laden with gold
All growing so nice and even.
We ask ourselves as we pass along.
Is this Anaheim, or the Garden of Eden.
