AMALGAMATED GETS DEEP PRODUCTION With Oil Operators The Amalgamated Oil Co., stands the petroleum line right at Junction Beach for its deep production wonders. The Amalgamated has just completed three more wells that are wonders for the amount of hole drilled and the production the wells are making. Unfortunately on account of lack of storage, shigging facilities and pipe equipment the big wells are not being allowed to show their full capacity. The Pearce property's No. 3 finished drilling at 4700 feet and casing in pinched down a 2000 barrel well. This well under normal conditions would bank 4000 barrels easily. Pearce No. 4 another big one completed at 4800 started off at 2000 barrels and was cut down to 100. Miller Rock No. 15 the world record deep producer increased its production from 2560 bbls to 3569, and was cut down to 1800 barrels. A 3300 barrel well at 1942 in the greatest triumphe in deep drilling and production that has ever been accomplished any where in the world. The work of the Amalgamated Oil Co., ranks first in importance the world's work in California. Production has been developed at a depth that had never even been dreamed of before, and Muntington Beach has been assured a place among the three great oil fields of Southern California. The Holly Oil Co., was presented with a nice Christmas gift when its No. 1 a recent completion on the sugar factory grounds increased its production from 1800 to 2800 barrels. This wonder well was completed a month ago at 4600 feet. The Holly Oil Co., has outlined a heavy development campaign for the new year and will start five new wells drilling and redrilling. The work is under the supervision of Wm. Kammerer one of California's best. The Mosler-Special is another company that has been remembered by the petroleum Santa Claus. Redrilling is important on account of lack of storage, shigging facilities and pipe equipment the big wells are not being allowed to show their full capacity. MARRIED WOMEN ARE BEST TEACHERS NEW YORK, Dec. 30 — Many a married woman will give herself the luxury of a satisfied amilia when she reads the declarations of Ray Dr. Shafer, assistant commissioner of education for New Jersey. Mr Shafer says that married women are proving to be more efficient school teachers than single ones, because they have a better understanding of children. Commissioner: Shafer apparently take the view that this opened wisdom and experience impart profitably to made available for the schools and his support of that opinion he can command much forceful argument. CITRUS LOSS DUE TO MUSHROOM ROT Several infestations of Mushroom Root Rot which have been brought to the Farm Advisory attention recently, receive the need for more information on this pest; as there seems to be considerable misunderstanding among growers as to its cause and control. In the first place this disease, if it may be termed such, is known by several names—e.g., mushroom root rot, Armillaria root rot, Oak root fungus rot, etc. This particular rot is caused by a mushroom fungus, thought originally to have infested oaks and sycamores. The roots or rhizomorphs of the fungus permeate the infested ground and seek living roots for sustenance. Citrus and deciduous roots are all susceptible with very few exceptions. The black walnut, fig and pear seems to be resistant. The disease in the root may be recognized by the fan-like whitish stringy mycelia in the cambium tissue just under the bark. When of long standing the bark will easily slough off and disclose the fungus organism. Sometimes, not often in a cultivated grove, the mushrooms themselves may be seen near the crown of the infected tree. ANOTHER AT SANILA Sanila Fe Spruce nursery when the Corp. brought it. Drilling and deepening a small producer Porter No. 2 from 3600 to 4436 feet resulted in a 2000 barrel well. Montebello, Southern California's oil field attracted some attention a few days when the St. Helens Petroleum Co., brought in a 2300 barrel well. The big well, the largest of the year at Montebello was completed on the Monterey property at a depth of 4397 feet. The new producer is making 29 gravity oil and will undoubtedly be the starter of much new development for the west side section. OFFICIAL CITY MUST GO DRY ALSO WASHINGTON, Dec. 30—Prohibition forces in congress have determined to dry up official Washington. Aroused by reports that government officials and some members of congress who have taken oaths to enforce and uphold all laws, including the Volstead act, have abundant supplies of liquors, the drys have determined to force, these public men to "practice what they preach." Evidence already has been collected that some o f the congressmen who voted for the Volstead law have liquor in their offices at the capitol and that officials who share the responsibility for the enforcement of the dry act patronize bootleggers. With Oil Operators: Santa Fe Springs added another 300-barrel well to No. Calif's production when the General Petroleum Corp. brought in Santa Fe No. 5. The big well was completed at 1680 and is making 24 gravity oil. The new well holds second place on the production list of the Springs field. The Elliott Petroleum Co. has succeeded in pulling the n-1-2 oil string from its No. 1 and drilling is under way down to the Meyer sand. The drilling is going nicely now at 4100 feet. The Elliott well will open up the Springs field a half mile of new property on the west side. The Petroleum Midway will make an effort to develop the Meyer sand in its Felix No. 1. This well at 3800 failed to make much of a producer. The Petroleum Midway's Bell No. 1 located in the north side of the field, is still standing suspended at 4800 and will not resume drilling until field developments warrant it. The Union Oil Co. of Calif., brought in a nice well on the Howard property when it completed Howard No. 2, a 2600-barrel well at a depth of 3923 feet. The big well is flowing under a casing pressure of 580 pounds and is making 30 gravity oil. Howard No. 1 blew out at 2200 feet and accomplished one of the greatest disasters of the field early last spring. The bringing in of No. 2 redeems the property for both the owner and the Union Oil Company. The Union flood test well is now drilling at close to 5200 feet and is not showing any oil indications. The B. G. T. Oil Co. has retired from the field as an operating concern and has contracted the drilling of Its No. 1 at Santa Fe Springs to the McKeon Drilling Co. The B. G. T. made two attempts to get a hole down on the Marble property, both meeting with disastrous fishing jobs. The McKeon Drilling Co. has earned "WORLD'S EYES UPON AMERICA," SAYS POPE ROME, Dec. 30. "The eyes of the world are turned to noble America." Pope Plus XI declared in a Christmas message to the people of the United States, transmitted to the United Press by Cardinal Gasparri. The message follows; "May Christmas be a dawn of better times for poor humanity which is still weighed down by the results of war. Fully four times Christmas has come and gone since the peace which was heralded has not returned to the hearts of men, all efforts having so far been in vain." "The eyes of the world are turned to noble America. May God inspire that generous people and give it the glory of raising the world from the most terrible crisis ever recorded in history." an enviable reputation for drilling deep wells and will doubtless repeat past performances on the B. G. T. property. SHERIFF SAYS POOL HALLS BREAK LAW There are more than a score of poolrooms scattered over Orange County mostly Mexican, which are violating the laws against bootlegging or gambling or both, Sheriff C. E. Jackson said today. One of the score is-on No. Lemon-st. Anaheim, Jackson added, where gambling is in progress, most of the day and night. Delhi, Talbert, Westminister and Los Alamitos are the worst offenders. Reflecting back on the eight years of his experience as sheriff Jackson said that Mexicans are the cause of four-fifths of the crime in Orange-co. If it were not for heavy fines imposed in certain bootleg cases Jackson's fiscal record would not be so excellent, queries showed. Jackson commended the anti-Anaheim Creamery Raw and Pasturized Milk, Cream, Buttermilk, Cottage Cheese, Butter Delivered Fresh Dally.
