REO SUBSTANTIAL TYPE OF LUXURY The substantial type of luxury marks the new Reo phaeton, one of which has been received by Dale & Co., distributors for Orange-co. Upholstered in beautiful Spanish leather of an extraordinary thickness, and with side curtains which fit snugly owing to the new style of mounting on a steel framework used that one might well imagine he was in a closed car, this phaeton is all that is fine in fine cars. Branch Manager Cromer also calls attention to a new four-passenger coupe which his branch has received. A coupe so commodious as to house four adults comfortably is a new departure in closed cars. The car has the lightness of its aluminum construction and consequently is oven more economical to operate than the usual Reo. The usual quality materials and workman which have made the Reo the most durable car made characterize both models. SAFETY RAZOR In the handle of a new safety razor is enclosed an electric flash light large enough to enable a man to see to shave himself in a dark room. CALUMPIT CAMP 26 ENJOYS XMAS TREE Calumpit Camp No. 26, Dept. of Cal., U.S.W.V., and their Auxiliary held a Christmas tree and dance at the Villa Park Hall on Tuesday night, December 19th, 1922. The Hall had been nicely decorated with Pepper boughs and Holly berries with a large Xmas tree on one side of the stage and the piano on the other side. Twenty-five couples were in attendance and the music was supplied by Miss Marjorie Thompson and Miss Audrey Isbell taking turns at the piano. Commander-elect Chas. E. Waffle was in charge of the proceedings ably assisted by Commander Imes and Comrades Martin V. Allen. After the dance, tables were arranged in the hall and coffee and cake were served by the refreshment committee. The entertaining feature of the evening was that every person there received a present off the tree and the flies, whistles and horns made the welkin ring. All voted the affair an entire success and more such excursions into various parts of Orange-co were predicted. Nature provides remedies, and so far man hasn't been able to manufacture a better cold cure than time. LOUIS, Mo., Dec. 23.—(United Press)—A landmark of the Old Southwest is about to be swallowed up in the rush of a new and bustling Mississippi Valley. The Planters' Hotel rendezvous of wealthy travelers of a century past, will close its doors Jan. 1, after 105 years of hospitality and good cheer. The stately old hostelry—the oldest in St. Louis and one of the most famous in the Middle West, will be stripped of its expensive furnishings and is to be remodeled as a modern office building. Rich memories of 19th century romances, of life on the great western plains and in the cotton fields along the Mississippi, will be lost to St. Louis with the passing of the Planters'. Its roof has sheltered thousands of conventions. Councils of war have been held in its chambers. Down its long, gray corridors have walked the rugged pioneers of the plains. The "landed gentlemen" of the South have come with their families on long steamer trips up the Mississippi to enjoy its hospitality. The pages of its register contain the names of Presidents Princes, generals, diplomats, authors, practically all the great musicians of the last century, as well as countless numbers of just "people," who have been attracted to the historic old inn. One of its first distinguished guests was Charles Dickens. GIANT ROOKIE GIVEN SERVICE IN HAWAII SYRACUSE, N. It has been proposed that four or five of the huge rubber industries donate enough of their product to pave Main street, at least to the south approach of the new $300,000 viaduct recently dedicated. The idea has been suggested by E. E. Helm, in charge of the industrial department of the chamber of commerce. His slogan is: "Pave the main thoroughfare of Akron with rubber, and you will automatically convert our community into a rubber city which will justify its name." Letters to this effect have been sent by Helm to all the leading rubber manufacturing plants in the city. The plan is said to be receiving favorable consideration. FINAL WARNING OF HIGHER TIRE COSTS Final warning of higher prices soon to come was voiced by James the Vulcanizer, who has the exclusive agency of Ajax and Horse Shoe tires and is one of three distributors of the Good year. The advance will come any time after the first of the year, says James. The Horse Shoe long has been selling higher than most of the standard makes because of its better quality and larger size. TRADE RESEARCH British builders have formed a trade research association to develop and devise new machinery and methods. A new motor fuel that has been invented in the Orange Free State is made from the juice of the prickly pear combined with other chemicals.
