RECORD PRODUCTION FOR GREAT DEPTH
(With Oil Operators)
Huntington Beach stepped into the lime light last week when the Amalgamated Oil Co. brought in a well that for production and depth has no equal anywhere in the world. The world record well was brought in at Miley-Keck No. 5 when a 4942 foot well came in a 2060 barrels, produce 27 gravity oil. This new wonder well of Southern California is flowing thru a 28-32 bean and is under a pressure of 680 pounds. In this well the longest oil string set inside of a water string was accomplished, and done without injury to the water string or encountering any difficulty. The first showings of oil were struck soon after the 8:14 was set at 3688, and continued with hardly a break to 4942 feet. It required 987 feet of slotted pipe to take care of the oil bearing sand. The big well is located the furthest out on the structure and proves up five other wells for the Amalgamated namely, Pearce 2, 3, 4, Powler 5 and Dennison No. 2. This means that all the Amalgamated will have to do to get five more big wells is to run them down to the 5000 foot mark and bring them in.
Huntington Signal, a company that started at Huntington Beach in the boom days, is now the possessor of a 2000-bbl well. The Huntington Signal's well at 2600 proved a small producer making considerable water. The drilling of the well to 4392 resulted in something worth while and illustrates again the possibilities the Huntington Beach field has for deep sand production.

POLITE PIG DOESN'T FEED UNTIL ORDERED
YORK, S. C., Dec. 19. — "Piggy Boy," a 300-pound pig, is a pet of John S. Hartness, a banker, living at Sharon, a small town near here. "Piggy Boy" is different from most pigs in that he doesn't attempt to put his nose into the bucket when he sees his master approaching with food. He runs to his pen and is ready for the food when it is poured into the trough. "Piggy Boy's" best chum among the animals in the Hartness barnyard is a cow. He sleeps every night with the cow, whose sides serves him as a pillow.

week R. W. Edens closed a deal for the properties and holdings of the Hurst Oil Syndicate. The deal carries with it extensive holdings and puts the Orange County Drilling Co. in a position to get some of the Deep production of the field that is making Huntington Beach famous.
E. G. Lewis is doing a unique piece of work at Huntington Beach. The Palos Verdes manager has taken over the lease formerly held by the General Petroleum known as Community No. 1, has a rig erected over the old hole drilled to 4400 feet and is about ready to start drilling. Mr. Lewis believes the General Petroleum stopped a few hundred feet from the top of the sand and his work will be watched with more than passing interest.

GAINT SWITCH RACK IN KATELLA PLANT
The second largest switch rack in So. Cal. now is being constructed at the Katella sub-station, to be in operation by Jan. 1. It will have a capacity of 60,000 volts, compared with the present 10,000 volts, and will be surpassed only by the monstrous new sub-station of Laguna-Bell now being built. The latter is the principal transformer for the Eagle Rock hydro-electric producing plant.
These racks are constructed out of doors for safety's sake.
The indoor current will be accommodated on a switch bus.
Much of the work of connecting up the sub-station with the station of Laguna-Bell is completed, and plans now are being considered of doubling the capacity of the former copper cables, in addition to stringing the new lines.
The service furnished by the South California Edison Company to Anaheim and most of Orange County as far as Capistrano, will be much im-

ELOPING GIRL ASKS ANNULMENT
Los Angeles, Dec. 19—How she eluded her parents and clooped to Santa Ana with a sailor and was married, only to be met on the street by her partner as she stepped from the train in this city with her youthful husband, was told today on the witness stand by Juanita May Evans, a dainty blonde, who sought an annulment of her marriage to Robert Turner Evans in Judge Summerfield's court. The case was taken under advisement.
