YOU CAN'T START ANY YOUNGER TIME CAMPAIGN OF RAID ON HOLIDAY LIQUORS LOS ANGELES, Dec. 18.—A sunning drive at bootleggings supplied with large stocks of liquor for Christmas trade was launched in Los Angeles and every large city of the nation today on orders from prohibition officials in Washington. State prohibition enforcement officers were ordered to recruit extra men to work in the drive and were authorized to spend large sums of government money to make Christmas and New Year's Day "dry" holidays. Preparations made for the drive indicated that the week will be the busiest of the year for enforcement officers. The drive was ordered in all large cities where bootleggers are known to have accumulated large stocks of whiskey, gin, wine, beer and other liquors for Christmas and New Year's buyers. For months the bootleggers have been "stocking up" it was stated, for the holiday trade. Chamber of Commerce OCEANSIDE—CALIFORNIA For Sale or Trade Brunswick SAVE IMMIGRANTS FROM HUMILIATION A humane amendment to United States immigration laws is recommended by Secretary of Labor Davis. He would have the laws provide for examination into the fitness of would-be immigrants in their country of origin by United States officials. Under the present method examination is deferred until immigrants arrive at American ports of entry. This requirement works much hardship and humiliation oftentimes to very deserving immigrants who technically cannot enter the United States. If they were told this in their home country, before learing themselves away from their native habitat and embarking for this new world, they would be saved the expense of the voyage and would be spared the mortification of being rejected at America's gates and compelled to return to their native health.
