BEING SICK EASIER THAN IN OLD DAYS
One of the least realized blessings which electricity has brought to the modern home is that it has made being sick easier than in the old days. Now the light turns on noiselessly and without unpleasant shells in happy contrast to the old days when the scratch of a match to light candle or kerosene at lamp would drive a nervous patient to despair. And then when lighted the lamp smelled very disagreeable especially when turned low. Turning the electric light low needs only a special globe and two pulls for different strengths.
If a patient had chills in the old days somebody had to let upoke up the fire in the kitchen range and heat a flat iron, a bag of salt, or not water for the hot water bottle. All this took time, was noisy, and gave a heat which steadily decreased from the moment the water was taken off the fire. Nowadays the patient has his choice of several electric heating devices which heat instantly and maintain their temperature without burning delicate skin or spilling either water or salt upon him. They were light and very comforting either to a cramp or a shivering body.
Cleaning was a problem that could hardly be met in a sanitary way before electricity came into common use. An old manual of nursing gives the following instruments:
"Wet a cotton flannel bag, made with the nap side out, in cold water, wring it slightly and tie it over the bromo to use to sweeping. Be careful to wash it every time it is used. It is essential that the floor of a sick room should be kept clean. Remove all dust with a damp cloth. The cleaning of all objects should be done outside the sick room."

LIONS CLUB HOST TO FOOTBALL TEAM
GARDEN CROVE, Dec. 12. (Spl)
One of the happy social events of the season was the reception for the high school football team, held at the Garden T.O. hotel under the auricles of the club, as a fitting climax to a successful football season for the his school players.
At seven o'clock the football players and members of the Lions Club were seated at the long banquet table in the dining room of the hotel. Words are inadequate to fully express the banquet. It was one of those famous Wilcox chicken dinners and for over an hour there came a procession of dishes filled with good things and served in a way that would tempt the appetite of a king, to say nothing of the healthy appetite of a healthy group of football players, and they were tackled by everyone present without any coaching from chicken in delicious gravy than the last—but finally mortal man could do no more.
Dr. C. C. Violet presided as toastmaster, and in well chosen words introduced J. M. Woodworth, who gave a helpful talk, explaining some of the elements that made for the success of the team and of those that will make their future success, and of the fact that football was not only a game but a character builder.
Coach Spring was introduced next who in turn introduced the members of the football team, and gave a brief resume of the various qualifications of each player during the season just closed.
J. C. Allen also gave an interesting address, in which he extended congratulations to the team for the splendid record they made this year.
Mark Morrill, representing the football boys was the next speaker. He gave a brief summary of the teams activity since its inception, of the advancement made in spite of obstacles, and predicted a better team next year than the past had been.
H. A. Lake, a former star on the Wisconsin college grid eleven entertained with reminiscences of his experiences as a player on a college

H. A. Lake, a former star on the Wisconsin college grid eleven, entertained with reminiscences of his experiences as a player on a college football team, and of the importance of living clean, healthful life.
His remarks were followed by an inspiring address by R. R. Miller of Santa Ana, also a former football player, who related many amusing experiences and also touched on the necessity of co-operation on the sidelines as well as the team interest, the effect of football on school spirit and closed his remarks by stating that a good football team was one of the greatest assets in a town from an advertising standpoint.
At the conclusion of his remarks, each member of the team was presented with his letter by A. D. Hoenshul, principal of the high school.
A. W. Himmle of Huntington Beach was then introduced and gave a talk on Lionism, his remarks being coupled with several amusing anecdotes. Headed by their yell leader, Mark Morrill, the football boys then arose and "but across" some snappy Lions yells. A delightful feature of the evening was the selections given by Huntington Beach, each number receiving unstituted applause. We hope to have this splendid quartette with us again.
Altogether the reception was a most happy occasion and one that will long be pleasantly remembered. Members of the football team who were present were Earl Walker, John Drake, Archie Keatns, Ben Richey, Mark Morrill, Dolph Kelsey, Rodney Collins, Emary Crist, Harry Munz, Walt Leuhhardt, Milton Chaffey, Floyd Dungan and Francis Russell.
