WHITTER-BLDY IS GREAT THOROFARE
Whittler Boulevard has the greatest future of any thoroughfare in the Southland, according to Carlin O. Smith, well known Los Angeles realtor and sub-divider of the big Eastmont sub-division fronting on the historic old highway.
Mr. Smith told the fact that 420,000 worth of new buildings are now being completed on or adjacent to Whittler Boulevard every day at the present time. Not more than three years ago there was not that much building activity along the highway in an entire month.
Why are livestock, business men, industrial magnates, realtors and thousands of homestead seekers invading the territory abutting Whittler Boulevard? asks Mr. Smith?
They have realized that the east side has come into its own. It has grown more in the past year than in any previous five year period and Whittler Boulevard is the center of activity. It is the only entrance to the city from the amazingly rich south and east sections. It is the international highway between California and Mexico and the east side of Los Angeles is the easiest and most logical way for the city now to expand.
Thousands of old timers in Los Angeles wouldn't know Whittler Boulevard today. Thousands of homes are being built around it and business and industry is springing up in every direction. In a short time work will commence one of the greatest industrial projects west of Chicago. It will be the new shops and granite industrial city that have been planned by the Union Pacific System. But even without this important development, Whittler Boulevard is destined to become one of the busiest and most important outlying thoroughfares in Southern California. Unlike many streets that have enjoyed phenomenal growth in the city of Los Angeles, Whittler Boulevard does not have to be opened up because it already a new highway and the only artery serving some of the
ROMANCE NOT DEAD LOVE STILL LIVES
Romance is not confined to the age of top boots and swishing pumps.
Love has outlasted the centuries and will continue to do so.
Mother love, greatest of all human emotions, is the keynote of the thrilling drama of home and stage that Charles E. Slaney called "More Is Be Pitted Than Scorned, which open tomorrow to the California theater."
An old-fashioned title to be sure, but mother love is an old-fashioned thing even if it does rule the world howadays as before.
They took her baby from her thru fault of her own ward she followed blindly, altho the road led thru the hospital, the prison and the insane asylum.
The mother of "More to Be Pitted Than Scorned" is Alice Lake, whose tremendous following among picture lovers will fock to see her in this famous pay.
Baby Josephine Adair as Ruth Lorraine is a blonde kiddie who wins the heart of every beholder at once and makes the smiles and tears chase each other in lively fashion.
Other added offerings on the program for tomorrow at the California Will include Buster Keaton's newest rib-tickler "Cops", a riot if there ever was one. Also diminutive Yvonne Part in a special stage presentation and another thrill-chapter of "Buffalo Bill".
Just a word about Buster Keaton's comedy. Every theatergoer here should see this comedy by a means it is a regular mirthquake. Don't miss it.

22.4 MILES ON GALLON OF PRICKLY PEAR JUICE
WASHINGTON — A new motor spirit made from prickly pear juice mixed with other chemicals has proved so successful in tests, according to a report to the department of commerce, that a company with $100,000 capital has been organized to exploit it.
This new product was invented by A. C. de Villers, a lawyer in the Orange Free State, and the formula is a secret.
The spirit has been tested on various makes of cars, and is said to be equal to or better than gasoline in power and flexibility, a mileage of 22.4 being obtained in a six-cylinder car. The cost of production is said to be nine pence per gallon, and it is figured that the retail price will be about half that of gasoline. All the ingredients are obtainable in exhaustive supplies in South Africa. The prickly pear grows wild in many parts of the country and in fact has become a pest, devastating thousands of scores of farm land.
MINE UNDER GEACIER
Glaciers both held and hinder the higher, says Dr. Minor Roberts, dear of the Washington State School of Mines.
The great ice rivers of the nas have laid bare rich deposits of ore in passing over mountains. The mind of British Columbia offer many in shades of ores formed at lower depths, but now appearing unweathered at the surface. Their change of relative position has been brought about through erosion and a final sweep by the ice.
But while the glacier has in the ages gone laid bare the riches of the mountain just as one might cut away half an apple and expose the seeds to view, the surviving glaciers of today do not always help the prospector. A prospector near Doubtful Lake, Washington used to dig through glacial ice for some distance before striking his vein in the solid rock. By next season his tunnel through the ice had moved down the valley a little distance and he had to drive another one. He soon had several useless blind entrances lined up in a row.
Mrs. I. Barman of Fullerton underwent an operation today, at the Fullerton hospital.
J. H. Smith of Fullerton and Fred Willis of Liberty, Saskatchewan, Canada, who is visiting the Smith family, went to Los Angeles today.

into comedy of the sort that provokes loud and continuous guffaws. Stan Laurel has the leading role of "Rhubarb Vaselino" and is said to give an exceedingly funny characterization of the illiterate foreador of the original story.
The real feature of the program Sunday and Monday, however, "Fools of Fortune," a comedy of a different sort, but quite enjoyable as the burlesque. The story tells of a cowboy who hears of an eastern millionaire who is seeking a long lost son. A deep, dark blood is formed whereby the cowboy, with the aid of his pals, is to go to the millionaire's home and make them believe he is the missing help. Before he succeeds in his purpose, he runs into unexpected difficulties which keep the audience in an uproar of laughter.
Maurice Temmiani and V. Annali were arraigned before Judge Prech and sentenced to 30 days each in the county jail on the charge of riding a train without having paid fare.

TODAY'S BLUNDER CORRECTED
No matter how dirty the house-cat becomes, she should never be washed with soap and water. Once a week she should be rubbed with a little dry boracle acid which can be brushed out again. When she is very dirty, her fur can easily be cleaned with a little warm bran, which is applied in the same manner as boracle acid.
