HOUSEWIFE ENJOYS MANY CONVENIENCES
"The housewife in Anaheim today enjoys more household conveniences than the queens of 200 years ago," declares J. C. Hayden, district superintendent of the So. Co. Gas Co.
"Steaming hot water in the bathroom kitchen at midnight or room and kitchen at midnight or of the modern gas heater and service that only an efficient gas range can give are three cardinal reasons why Mrs. Anaheim Housewife enjoys conveniences which her royal ancestors never dreamed of."
"The romance of the gas industry reads like a book," explained Hayden. "One hundred years ago the industry was struggling for existence in England with such eminent men Sir Walter Scott and Napoleon calling it "madman's dream." American ingenuity and genius took hold of the industry and brought it to its present state of perfection."
"Most of us remember the days of the old wood stove and our grand-mothers tell of the days of cooking in the open grate. All of the inconveniences of these primitive modes of cooking, soot, dirt, smoke and ashes, have been eliminated by gas. The housewife of today considers gas range one of the most important parts of her home."
"The gas industry has given us piping hot water at the turn of a valve. The demands from the sick room at midnight for instant hot water are always answered in the room which has a gas water heater. This appliance is also most essen-
L. A.—Frisco Coast Route Completed
Motorists of the state have cause for rejoicing in the completion of the Guestz grade on the coast highway, as this finished work on the road between Los Angeles and San Francisco and insures "smooth travel," announces the Auto Club of Southern California. The grade is just north of San Luis Obispo. It has long been a sore point with autoists who have had occasion to travel up and down the coast.
illness in America today was made possible very largely by the gas water heater."
"Gas heating in the modern home enables the consumer to enjoy all the benefits of the on a fireplace without attendant soot and smoke. The efficient gas heater furnishes ample heat for the home at a very reasonable cost."
"Gas Appliance Week," concluded Hayden, "has a great deal of significance for the housewife. Our appliances have shortened her hours of kitchen drudgery and have brightened her home. Today she has many hours for leisure which her grandmother was required to spend in preparing fires and heating water. Our appliances are those recommended by the American Gas Association and are the result of 11 years of study on our part. They represent the very best in their lines and make for comfort in th home."

FIRST PERSIMMON GROWERS MEETING
Great interest was manifested today by local persimmon growers in the First Persimmon Growers Institute, Fullerton. Many growers throughout So. Calif attended and submitted fruits for the variety display staged at the High School auditorium.
Geo. Sherwood of Fullerton, a persimmon enthusiast, nurseryman and commercial grower, says that there is concerted demand among persimmon growers for a permanent organization through which the various cultural and marketing problems of the industry may be considered, studied and solved. An organization of growers would be very helpful to get the best information available to the prospective planter, so that he may be guided from mistakes of the past.
Dr. J. R. Schofield, president of the Orange County Farm Bureau, presided.
Farm Advisor Wahlberg opened the discussion on the needs for a permanent organization and desirable type of organization service, Los Angeles county.
Other features of the program were:
Symposium on Varieties. Commercial experience with persimmon varieties to date in California. Knowler Ryerson, Agricultural Extension Service, Los Angeles county.
Behavior of Persimmon Introductions at Government Plant Introduction Garden, Chico C. C. Thomas, U.S. Department of Agriculture.

COUNTY BEEMEN TO MEET AT S. A. DEC. 9
The Beemen's Department of County Farm Bureau will hold their winter meeting Saturday, Dec. 9th, 1 p.m. at the Farm Bureau office, Santr Ana, according to Farm Advisor Wahlberg.
Roy Bishop, chairman of the Department, says they will have a splendid program including addresses on timely topics and a demonstration or transferring larvae for queen rearing by a queen specialist.
"There is apparent need for better care of bees during the wintering over period. We have much to learn from the Eastern honey producers in the winter care of the apiary. The Californian is generally quite lazy about affording proper winter quarers for his bees, because of the comparatively mild climatic conditions. Neglect in this requires considerable more food for the bee and at the same time weakens th colony for the honey flow in the spring."
The subject of winter care will be handled by bee experts and open to general discussion.
Mr. Henry Perkins of Los Angeler will talk on Queen Bee Rearing and demonstrate the process of transferring queen cells.
All beekeepers are invited to attend.
RECKLESS DRIVER 'GUILTY AS THIEF'
Jail sentences for serious infractions of the state laws governing motor vehicles is the suggestion being made at this time by the public safety department of the Automobile Club of Southern California.
Reckless auto drivers are just as guilty of public offense as pickpockets or burglaries, says the Auto club and they should not receive any more consideration. What would people think if burglars were regularly dismissed from the courts with a small fine? This is what the club wants to know.

But, according to club officials, 92 per cent of the motorists of this part of the state are careful drivers, and only eight per cent are reckless. The club wants to protect the majority from the misdeeds of the minority.
