TITLE FORFEITED TO ANAHEIM ELKS
ANAHEIM Elks, for the second season, are state champions. Santa Rosa, northern champions, forfeited the game to the locals yesterday afternoon in the fourth inning of the title tile, scheduled as a big feature of the Bills state convention at Santa Monica. The score at that time stood: Anaheim 5—Santa Rosa 3. However, the score is arbitrarily fixed at forfeited game.
While deeply greeting that the championship had to come on a fashion, local players and their supporters unanimously feel that they were in the right.
Many local fans declared the Santa Rosa leader, Walter Nagle, and two or three of his players as the biggest bunch of "crabbers" ever observed in a So. Cal baseball game. The following story by Frank A. Kerwin in today's Examiner explains what happens:
Jack Bedford, a former Coast league umpire and a member of the Santa Monica Elks, had a big decision to make yesterday afternoon in the ball game played at Santa Monica High School grounds between the Anaheim Bills and the Santa Rosa B. P. O. Elks for the State Elks championship.
Bedford had to make a decision among his brothers and before 4500 spectators when the most deplorable situation that ever came up in semi-proball in So. Cal took place in the fourth inning. The game was forfeited to Anaheim, 9 to 0.
Going into the fourth frame with the score three to nothing against them, Billy Knott's State champions hopped on Lefty Schmidt for four lilts and five runs. When Bush, Gehrot and Harry Hughes singled Buster Cullan, the hero of many an Anaheim victory, hit the campus wall for a two-base drive, cleaning the sacks which gave Orange County's best a 5 to 3 lead.
Coming to bat on Santa Rosa's half, Harry Hughes shot a fast one high and inside on the first man up. In attempting to evade the throw, the Santa Rosa fell away, the ball hitting his bat and rolling down the infield, between third and short. The latter claimed he was hit and sprawled over the plate. The ball was
LOCALS BRING HOME BACON LAST NIGHT
Billy Darnley's boxing hopes broke home the bacon at the re-opening of the club at Gate City last night. A good turnout witnessed an excellent program, thoroughly satisfied with the first boxing witnessed there in several months. The new club management is to be congratulated on the arrangements of the new arena as well as the excellence of the first card. The game should go big over there again once it gets well under way and the bugs appear strong for the new promoter.
In the main event, Jack Lowery of Anaheim lost the verdict to Young Vasquez, of San Diego, after four of the fastest and most sensational rounds of boxing witnessed in the Gate City for a long item. It was even up to the end of the third when Lowery apparently tired and Vasquez came on strong and thereby took the judge nod. The boys are now even. Lowery winning over the San Diego at the lacal arena a couple of weeks ago.

Coming to bat in Santa Rosa's half, Harry Hughes shot a fast one high and inside on the first man up. In attempting to evade the throw, the Santa Rosa reil away, the ball hitting his bat and rolling down the infield, between third and short. The latter claimed he was hit and sprawled over the plate. The bail was thrown to first and the batter declared out. Santa Rosa took exception to the decision.
A squabble arose at the plate lasting for at least ten minutes, when Manager Knott and the Anaheim player compromised, being willing to allow the batter to bat over. Santa Rosa refused and declared themselves through with the game. If the batter was not allowed to take first base, Bedfor gave a final warning and awarded the game to Anaheim lodge.
Many of So. Calif.'s baseball men including Larry Arnold, manager of Sawtelle, McGarvey, manager of Huntington Park Elks; Perry O'Brien, a member of the Vernon club; Sd Daley, former Texas League umpire; L. A. Lewis, state chairman of the Elks' baseball committee, and Pete Hax, the "Governor" of Orange County, were present and all declared the impire's decision was a just one. Score:

GREAT VICTORY IN LOCAL CITY
In the main event, Jack Lowery of Anaheim lost the verdict to Young Vasque, of San Diego, after four of the fastest and most sensational rounds of boxing witnessed in the Gate City for a long time. It was even up to the end of the third when Lowery apparently tired and Vasquer came on strong and thereby took the judge nod. The boys are now even. Lowery winning over the San Diego at the local arena a couple of weeks ago.
In the semi-windup, our own Johnny McGraw lost the decision to Jimmy Museo of San Berdoo after four hard fought rounds. The decision did not meet with the approval of the bugs as they thought that the least McGraw should have had a draw.
Our old friend, Tex Jones, once again came thru with flying colors, beating Kid Rubio of Riverside in what was the best bout of the night in so far as fighting was concerned. Neither boy was any time in getting down to business, starting right off the bat in big league style to clean one another up. Tex scored four knockdowns while Rubio had Tex on the canvas once. The bout had the crowd in a frenzy.

Hornell, N. Y.—"I was in bad health but there didn't seem to be any one thing the matter with me. I was tired out all over and it was an effort for me to move. I was irritable and could not sleep nights and had trouble with my bowels and at my periods. It seemed that nearly every one around me knew of your medicine and wanted me to try it so at last I took Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound Tablets and Lydia E. Pinkham's Blood Medicine and improved every day. I do all my own work now except the washing and do it with ease. I can accomplish as much in a day now as it would have taken me a week to do last winter and I try to get every one I know to take your medicine to build them up. You are welcome to use this letter as a testimonial if you like."—Mrs. Gras, Baker, 21 Spencer Ave., Hornell, N.Y.
In almost every neighborhood there are women who know of the value of Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound. They know because they have taken it and have been helped. Why don't you give it a trial?
