CYPRESS NEWS
CYPRESS, Oct. 13.—(Spl.)—Mr. and Mrs. G. G. Priddy entertained at their beautiful country home on North Walker-st. Oct. 8th with a farewell dinner party in honor of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Harter and little grandson, Basil Douglas Ingram of Oklahoma City Okla., who have been visiting at the Preddy home the past two months. Relatives from many states of the Union gathered to make it a gala day where the sadness of farewells were forgotten in happy reminiscence and good fellowship. All present have felt the call of California's golden sunshine and opportunities and the sting and heart pangs of the good-byes were lessoned by the hopes of other reunions in the near future. Those present beside the honored guests, Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Harter and little Basil Ingram were; Mr. and Mrs. Glen Williams Montana; Mrs. Mary Meyers, Pekin, Ill.; Mary Pangle Boyles, Maywood, Ill.; Helen Pangle Farrel, Indianapolis, Ind.; Mr. and Mrs. E. K. Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Mosey and Newton Williams of Long Beach; Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Davis and Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Davis of Los Angeles, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Harter and three sons, Lillian Charles and Richard of Hollywood; F. B. Pangle, San Pedro, and the host and hostess, Mr. and Mrs. Guy G. Pritty, their three daughters, Mae Freda, Riva and two sons Dean and DeOle Harter.
Mr. and Mrs. Don Grindley are the proud parents of a seven pound boy. The young man arrived Wednesday morning and is doing nicely. Don is a little high headed but it is thought that he will recover in time, but little hope is advanced for the recovery of Grandad Carpenter. He bath a smile that won't rub off.
There are many of our good Cypress people still crowing about "our" showing at the County Fair. All Cypress is proud of the honors won, but to a few go the thanks for those honors. If it had not been for the uniting efforts of George Ledford and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ritter and later the good work of Steve Luther, Harry Hughes, D. E. Bates and a few others, the Cypress display would have been a frost, and the rest of the county believe that Cypress is nothing but alkali flats. Our little triumph of the fair just begins to show our possibilities. A few more workers like the above mentioned and Cypress will be put on the map.
Smiling Earl Smith was the victim of a practical joke the other day.
"friend" gave the Smiling one a great big watermelon, which Earl carefully packed in ice. That evening Earl invited his friends in for a big feed. The melon was cut and Smiling Earl is still looking for the friend.
Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Curtis and son Harold and Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Smith all of Minneapolis, Minn., were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Carpenter. The Curtis family have permanently located in Long Beach.
Guy Priddy and the Deer brothers have just returned from an extensive duck hunt. They took in Warner's Dam, the dams in San Diego Co., and Salton Sea. They bagged a few ducks but they were mostly runts and crippled.
