MANAGER PROMISES
FINE, LARGE EVENING
With a double main event billed,
as well as a special event, and three
snappy preliminaries why it looks like
"A large evening" for fight fans hereabouts tomorrow night when Manager Billy Darnley of the Athletic
club presents his weekly offering. Joe
Chaney and Scotty Deist who are two
of the principals in the twin feature
bill need, little, if any introduction
to local fight hugs. Deist will be
remembered for the sterling battle
that he gave Mike O'Leary here recently while Joe Chaney, well his
past record speaks for itself. Any
old time Chaney's name is on the
card, it means a fight, and that is
something that the Whittler had has,
as yet, failed to come through with.
Joe is meeting a worthy opponent in
this Young Abe Attell, a boy that
will make him, Chaney, fight every
inch of the way. The same can be
said for Joe Thomas, the boy who
meets Scotty Deist. Thomas is a good
two-fisted hard-hitting fighter, and
Scotty will have to step fast all the
way. Here are two scraps that cannot
possibly fall down as far as a fight is concerned. They both promise to be. He-Man affairs with bells n'everything.
The special event will bring together that bit of real fighting machinery Johnny McGraw and Packy McMullen at 125 pounds. McMullen is the best boy that McGraw has as yet, been called upon to meet and if he gets by McMullen O. K. he will find himself open for the top position on the card in the very near future. Their meeting ought to result in a whale of a scrap as should also the fractas between Bennie Heller and Art Springer two classy 118 pounders who never fail to throw plenty of punch and snip in their work. Tex Jones is trying his hand again and this time, he is pitted against Paul Reber from Fullerton, a boy that will show Tex plenty of gloves. Tex says it will be, Reber this time, who will be asking, "If all the women and children were saved," instead of himself so it looks like Tex Is out to re-

NEW LICENSE LAW
The business and professional men and women of Anaheim, and merchants in all lines, are invited by the special committee of the Chamber of Commerce and Merchants' Association to meet and discuss with representatives of the organization, the new license tax ordinance that will soon be presented to the city trustees for adoption.
The need for a new license tax has been apparent for some time, and a committee of the Chamber of Commerce, working with a committee of the Merchants' Association are today completing the draft of the ordinance.
“This ordinance will have its influence in affecting everyone in competitive life in Anaheim,” said the chairman of the committee today, “and for that reason, we want every merchant or business or professional man or woman in business, to manifest interest in it.” To make this con-
OUR ROY READY FOR ALL CLAIMANTS
At Santa Paula Oct. 9th two men with an awful crust are staging what is supposed to be a title match for the light heavyweight championship of the world. Clarence Eckland of Wyoming claimant of the 175 pound class crown is supposed to be defending his title against Pete Sauer of Santa Paula. Eckland is a good man but has no claims to the championship. Santal claims that after all arrangements were made for a title match Eckland backed out and refused to go on the mat with Ad. Any Roy Mabee claims to be able to keep the buzzing of any championship bee that may be flying around Ecklands head. Anytime Mr. Eckland wishes to stage one of his so-called championship matches let him come to Anaheim, our rancher wrestler will entertain him.
We have a new claimant for a world’s championship in Anaheim, a feather weight lad, a boy arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Vic Baden, wrestling next Tuesday is off for Vie. The young arrival is putting Vie through a severe course of training and the proud father has asked to be excused next Tuesday.
Roy has another preliminary coming up that is going to be a main event, so the fans will be able to get along without Vie.
Roy showed more class in his work out last evening than ever before. Miller is noted for his fast going. If he sets the pace for Roy he will have to travel in high. Anyway it is going to be a fast and furious contest while it lasts.
Miller will be in town tomorrow, and will work out at the Elks club. He will be glad to meet any of the local boys who will work out with him. Wrestling fans are welcome to watch the workouts.
Tickets will go on sale tomorrow at the United Cigar Stand the Anaheim Athletic Club's presentation to the city trustees for adoption.
The need for a new license tax has been apparent for some time, and a committee of the Chamber of Commerce, working with a committee of the Merchants' Association are today completing the draft of the ordinance.
“This ordinance will have its influence in affecting everyone in competitive life in Anaheim,” said the chairman of the committee today, “and for that reason, we want every merchant or business or professional man or woman in business, to manifest interest in it. To make this convenient and possible, we will hear complaints of every nature affecting various businesses in Anaheim, from business people, regardless of whether they are members of the association or Chamber of Commerce. We want suggestion and co-operation before the ordinance is presented to the city officials, so that after it is presented and adopted, there need be no complaint.”
“新 methods of doing business, new schemes to get money out of the people of Anaheim are being presented every day,” continued the committeeman. All louse tax ordinances are designed and intended to protect local merchants and businesses, as well as professions, therefore new methods must be presented to protect the man or woman who is doing business in Anaheim. The ordinance is being drafted with that thought in mind. All the Anaheim business man or woman wants is an opportunity to cope with fair competition and secure a fair profit. Skilled salesmen in many lines of business are sent into Anaheim by outside agencies to theiment of Anaheim business interests, and ultimately, to the detriment many times of those who do business with the outside agencies.”
The committee representatives will be at the Chamber of Commerce the balance of this week to hear complaints or suggestions from the business people of the city.
event and gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded. The only rules governing the entries is that the contest must be a member of the Pacific Branch A. A.U.
The open events are 100 yd. dash; 120 yd. dash; 440 yd. dash; 220 yd. dash; two mile run; pole vault; 16 pound shot; running high jump; running broad jump; javelin throw.

NOTED TRACK MEN AT RIVERSIDE FAIR
More than 700 stars of the cinder path have signed up for the different events of the second annual field and track meet to be held at the Southern California Fair, at Riverside, Saturday, Oct. 14.
A game between U. S. C and Arizona conflicts with the meet and will be somewhat of a handicap as many of the U. S. C. are valuable track men. That there will be close competition is needless to say with such stars as Earl Wilson, Bud Houser, Ed Shaw and dozens of others already famous.
Three awards will be given in each Los Angeles Markets
