MAIN EVENT FAILS TO INTEREST FANS MANAGER Billy Darnley should have reversed his programme last evening out at the fisticimpalm. The main event as a curtain raiser would have been very well but as a main event it was a frost. Tom Kelly was entertaining a whole regiment of boffis and could not go on with Jack Iman. A lighter man by the name of Johnny Lee was imported to take his place. Lee was no match for the heavier Iman, but played so close to Jack that the Santa Ana battler could not do much, but a little in fighting. About a third of the house left in the third round. It was a very poor ending to an otherwise fine evening's entertainment. Jack Iman got the decision. In the semi-windup Jack Lowery came off with the decision over Young Vasquez of Santa Ana. The Santa Ana boy looked good in the first two rounds which were giving over to boxing Jack started out to end the fight in the third and Vasquez was lucky that Jack's sleep producers did not land on his chin. Jack kept his heavy artillery in action all through the forth but failed to hit just right, but succeeded in landing a few swings that had a lot of jar in them. Many of the galaxy birds hooted the decision. Jack Lowery has such a way of covering up that it is almost impossible for an opponent to land a body blow. Many of Vasquezs body punches appeared to land, when in reality Jack caught them with his elbows. Jack deserved the decision, tho his margin was not at wide one. It was a good bout. The feature of the evening was the Young Montaya-Tommy Nichols affair. Tommy wished to fight under his real name of Pete Wagner. Montaya felt that he could fight Pete Wagner just as well as Tommy Nichols so the fight was on. The first round saw Pete miss some terrific drives while Montaya kept playing an anoying left jab. Both boys were lightning fast and had the house going with their speed. The second round Montaya began to pile up his lead. He was on his man all the time, never allowing Pete to get set for his heavy swings. The third was like the second. The fourth found the pace too hot for Pete and he was almost out at the bell. Pete is a good little man and is same. CASEY THE CO LISSEN STUPID—NOW THAT SCHOOLS COME I WANT YOU TO BE AT CORNER EVERY AFTERNHELP THE KIDS ACROSS THE AN FAY SPECIAL-ATTENTION TO THE GIRL MABEE BEGINS TO TRAIN FOR MILLER MATCH OCT. 10TH By Sargum Snout Roy Mabee has finished irrigating his orange grove and is ready to begin conditioning for the coming match with Orland Miller, Oct. 10. Roy is feeling fine once more. He has recovered from his recent match with Ad Santel. His neck is all O. K. as is also the injury to his knee. Roy is not underestimating this Miller as his record provoca him to be a tough customer. Miller will outweight Roy seven or eight pounds and is in fine condition. Roy will again do his training at the Elks Gym with Baden and his brother Jack as training partners. The match will take place Oct. 10 at the open air arena where the Santel-Mabee match took place. PEARSON FORMER ANAHEIM RANCHER Montaya felt that he could fight Pete Wagner just as well as Tommy Nichols so the Night was on. The first round saw Pete miss some terrific drives while Montaya kept playing an annoying left jab. Both boys were lightning fast and had the house going with their speed. The second round Montaya began to pile up his lead. He was on his man all the time, never allowing Pete to get set for his heavy swings. The third was like the second. The fourth found the pace too hot for Pete and he was almost out at the bell. Pete is a good little man and is game. Montaya opened a ugly gash over his left eye in the last round but Pete was still trying to battle as the bell ended the going. This Montaya gums the whole show for he is so fast that the remaining bouts look slow and uninteresting. Montaya is destined to be a great little man if he don't contract a swelled head. His success so far is liable to make him a fit subject for the swell head, which will be his worst enemy. Bud Baker changed his residence to Long Beach, but that had no affect on Terrible Terry of Whittier. The Terrible one had Bud in such a bad way in the third that Bud's seconds tossed in a towel to end the agony. Bud's right eye was almost closed and his nose was broken he was battered and bruised but still game. Bud landed a few rocking jolts but the Terrible Terry kept out of the way most of the time. The curtain raiser was a good scrap between Johnny Naudes and Denny Herrera. Johnny had a lead all the way but had to extend himself to keep it. Both boys had slugged themselves goggy tired at the finish. All in all we had a good evening. SANTA ANA LOSES IN SEASON'S OPENER Santa Ana, football champions in So. Calif., last year, was beaten yesterday 12-0 by Lincoln Hi, tailenders of 1921. The Orange-co city's team was crippled by Right End Scheuhard being laid out with what he thought was sunstroke. He was taken to the Clara Barton Hospital. The first quarter ended with the ball on Santa Ana's 25-yard line. Santa Ana tried a series of bucks and off-tackle plays at the opening of the second quarter. Thompson of Lincoln kicked for 40 yards and Wilson was thrown for a five-yard loss by Long while rounding end. After Nunts Dyer of Lincoln went around end for 20 yards. The quarter ended with Lincoln holding the ball on her own 38-yard line. Toward the end of the first quarter of the second half Wilcox caught a 15-yard pass over the line of scrimmage passed by Black, and on a criss-cross Wilcox was thrown for a loss by Hacanauer. An entire new Santa Ana team was weight Roy seven or eight pounds and is in fine condition. Roy will again do his training at the Elks Gym with Baden and his brother Jack as training partners. The match will take place Oct. 10 at the open air arena where the Santel-Mabee match took place. PEARSON FORMER ANAHEIM RANCHER William J. Pearson, democratic candidate for U. S. Senator and a former Orange-co man, was here today with Winfield Hogeboom of Los Angeles. Pearson now owns a ranch near Willows in the Sacramento valley. He planted 25 acres of orange many years ago just off what is now Placentia-ave, selling the ranch some five years ago. Since then the ranch has been cut in two. Robert Dinkin owns one part Trapp and Kahlin the other. At noon Pearson spoke to a group of Democrats at St. Ann's Inn, Santa Ana. Hogeboom is the oldest member of the So. Calif. Editorial Ass'n except Henry Kuchel of the Anaheim Gazette. MEX. SHOT KILLS BOY ON AMERICAN SOIL EL PASO, Tex. An entire new Santa Ana team was put in by "Spud" Morrison for the last quarter, with the Lincoln team unchanged. McCue of Lincoln intercepted a pass and ran for 50 yards to Santa Ana's five-year line, where he was stopped. Deyer was shoved over for the touchdown after four straight bucks. FOUND A GREAT DEAD CITY What must have been one of the great centers of population in the world so many ages ago that today even its name is unknown, has been uncovered in Colombia, South America, by the American archaeologist, Mason. The ruins are of an ancient city of great size which must have had a tremendous population as the whole country 'round about is covered with dwelling sites and terraced with retaining walls surmounted by steps of beautifully cut stone. The people were an agricultural people which may explain it. Possibly they were deflated and the boards of trade did the rest. We shall never know.
