IMAN MEETS KELLY
HERE FRIDAY NIGHT
BIG Jack Iman, the Santa Ana slugger, hooks up with clever Tom Kelly, former amateur middle-weight champion of the Pacific Coast in Fridays main event at the Anaheim Athletic Club. Matchemaker Billy Darnley has signed the pair up at the request of Iman, who claims, he was far from right when he tackle dthe Irish youth at Delhi last Wednesday and dropped a four round verdict.
The Santa Ana boy was beaten, but plainly showed he was in poor form, having held Kelly too cheap and with little if any training, was very properly whipped. Jack feels that with a weeks hand training, he will be in his Vernon and Hollywood form by Friday and Mr. Tom Kelly will be in for the surprise of his sweet young life. There are many of Iman's friends who figure that the big boy was caught off guard when he met Kelly last week and it will be no surprise to them if their favorite beats Kelly in these return meeting. Jack is working out like a trojan and as Kelly is doing the same, neither boy can offer poor condition if he is beaten. It is a match that figures to pack the Arena to its capacity for it is bound to be a bitterly fought contest.
For the semi-windup, Darnley has another Santa Ana favorite who is rapidly coming to the front. Hank Gatten is his name and the manner in which Hank is bowling 'em over at Delhi is causing fight bugs around these parts to sit up and take notice. Gatten has a wallop and generally when it lands, it spells curtains for his opponent. He will be meeting a worthy opponent Jimmy Murphy, a boy who has displayed plenty of class around Los Angeles and vicinity. Murphy will undoubtedly make Gatten extend himself to the limit and it promises to be a "hummer" all the way.
Three rattling good preliminaries are also down on the bill and it looks like Darnley is again treating his patrons to another star card of bouts.
ANAHEIM MAT-MAN AGREES TO GRAPPLE MILLER OCT. 10TH
Roy Mabee, Anaheim's wrestling idol, will be seen in action again Tuesday, Oct. 10. The rancher mat-man announced today he would accept the challenge published in yesterday's Plain Dealer from Orlando Miller, who has just rolled in from Nebraska looking for a meeting here. Place and terms of the match will be announced later.
Mabee will finish irrigating his ranch this week and will start training next week.
While nothing is known yet locally of Miller's claim to fame, he looks like a duplicate of John Hackensemidt, the Glendale "Bear Cat," one of the several up-and-coming wrestlers who have been treated to a surprise party at the hands of Mabee recently.
Miller weighs 183 while Mabee is making about 175, but what's a few pounds to Anaheim's wrestler.

SHELL OIL CO. TO PLAY ELKS SUNDAY
Anaheim's champion Elk ballgamers, with no local diamond on which to play since the high school field has been plowed up for football will trek to Signal Hill Sunday to meet the fast Shell Oil Co., team.
The following Sunday Anaheim will play the winner of three-game series between San Pedro and Sawtelle.
This gives the locals two stiff games to put them on edge for the Elks state championship battle at Santa Monica, Oct. 13.
Shell Oil Co., defeated Long Beach Elks 11 to 1 last Sunday. San Pedro and Sawtelle have each won a game in their series.
Eddie Dunn overcome by heat ten days ago, is out of the hospital and rapidly rounding into oldtime form. He hopes to be able to don a uniform Sunday.
Johnny Pendleton, Elk third baseman who tried to turn a flip-flop in his Ford a week ago and came out with a bad knee, is still wearing a cane and may not get the old joint to working right before Sunday.
