NEIGHBOR LODGE INITATES FOUR FOR LOCAL ORDER WITH an attendance of 25 visitors and a number of local members, the Royal Neighbors yesterday held a meeting of particular pleasure and benefit. Among the visitors were the state vices oracle, Mrs. Mary Sutherland, who made a short address and who complimented the officers on their work. Mrs. Eva Boyd, district president, also spoke briefly. The degree team of Orange Royal Neighbors, conferred the rites upon four candidates, Mrs. Mattie Thompson, Mrs. Raymond Rutledge, Mrs. C. A. Nevin and Mrs. Wyland, who were made members of the local lodge. The initiation was elaborate, and use of the new flag during the march, to which salute was given, while "The Star Spangled Banner" was played, gave added solemnity. The degree team was composed of 12 officers, all dressed in white, and who exemplified the work most efficiently. Mrs. Widener, oracle of Orange lodge, spoke briefly for that lodge, and visitors from lodges in North Dakota and from Idaho also expressed their pleasure at being in the meeting. Refreshment was served following the secret work, birthday hostesses of August and September, the Messames Anna Bonkorky, Elma Pressel, Marjorie Johnson, Clara Young, Katie Nangle, Minnie Calkins, Laura Criss, Blanche Shaffer, and the Messrs Chapman and Chambers. Delphians to Meet The Delphian society which will meet Friday for organization, in the ladies parlor at Elks' club house, has a very large membership. With plans for but 60 members when organization was first begun, the signatures grew until they now number 100. A Dinner and Cards The spacious Lemke home on Placentia-ave, Placentia was the scene of a large party Saturday evening when Mrs. John Lemke entertained the members of the "Jolly Wive Hundred Club" and their husbands. A sumptuous dinner was served at 6:30 and was delicious indeed. Table decorations was in keeping with the autumn season. After the dinner hour tables were arranged for the card games. Prize winners for the ladies proved to be Mrs. Howard Lucy, Miss Alms and Mrs. George. Much merriment was added to the party when the gentlemen's prizes were awarded, as Miss Marie Robertson was presented with one of the awards. The "other" gentlemen were Ach Hawkins and Mr. Stone. Players of the evening were the Messrs and Mesdames Bradford, John Hetebrink, Will Hetebrink, Stone, Bert Annin, George Aninn, O. A. Schumacher, Howard Lucy, John Wagner, N. P. Robertson, Charles Hansen, Misses Marie Robertson and Lucy Alma, Mr. Archie Hawkins, and Mrs. John Lemke. PAST PRESIDING CHISPA CHAPTER OFFICERS FETED Although interrupted by darkness for forty-five minutes, brought on by burned out light fuses, the hospitality extended to sixteen past patrons and past matrons of Chispa chapter, O. E. S., last evening was of warmest quality. All offices were filled for the evening by these past officers, Mrs. Pearl Ransom, of West-lake chapter, Los Angeles and Mrs. Winters of Buena Park, guests of the chapter, assisting. One Chispa charter member, Mrs. R. L. Coons, was present. Language Classes Resumed Classes for adults in both beginners and advanced Spanish and in beginners' French will be resumed Tuesday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m., in the local high school. Emphasis will be placed on speaking and students soon will be able to converse in the respective languages. Books are furnished free by the school. Party at Mrs. Palmer's A card party will be held Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Minnie Palmer, 1904 East Center-at, the proceeds to be added to the church building fund already created. Prizes and refreshments will feature the gathering and everyone who enjoys cards and a happy afternoon is cordially invited. W. E. Club with Mrs. Day The West End Country club will meet Friday afternoon with Mrs. F. K. Day, at her home on County-rd. Bigham was toastmaster and called upon every honoree who happily responded. During the serving Mrs. O. A. Henderson, of Long Beach, and Mrs. Pearl Ransom of Los Angeles, sang beautifully two duet numbers. Cavers were laid for one hundred Stars. The next gala event in Chispa Chapter's activities will occur Monday evening, Oct. 9, when all matrons and patrons of Southern California will be entertained. Circles Thursday Rev. Puffenburg, of Los Angeles, will hold circles and give messages Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock and in the evening at 7:30, on Thursday. The occasion was in honor of Mr. Long's sister, Mrs. Guess, who was enjoying a birthday anniversary. To further the color motif of pink and white carnations were used, comblined with ferns. The birthday cake bore pink candles and rosebuds, and wherever possible the pink and white idea was carried out. The evening was passed in playing cards and with music. After games ice cream and birthday cake were served. Popular Couple Wedded The beginning of a pretty romance which started at Fullerton high school where both graduated, culminated in the wedding of this popular young people of Placentia and Fullerton, Miss Evelyn Lemke, daughter of Mrs. John Lemke of Placentia, and Arch Hawkins. The bride was a member of the class of '20 and the groom, '19. Young Hawkins was a great athlete and make a name for himself in football and track. The couple left no information as to where they were going to be married, but it is thought they visited Justice J. B. Cox. They will honeymoon for a week, part of their time being spent at San Francisco. The couple will live on East Center-st, Anaheim, after their return. Mrs. Lemke will entertain Mr. and Mrs. Hawkins with a reception on Oct. 6 at the Lemke home at Placentia. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Heying and Mrs. C. D. Mason living northeast of Anaheim, entertained a few friends last evening as it was Mr. Mason's birthday, but he did not know they wer going to do any entertaining, and was properly surprised when the guests dropped in.
