INNOVATION IN ACCESSORIES THEFT
A new kind of thief has been discovered in Ananeim, according to the local police, one who steals the battery from the cars of church-going people, and leaves them to "leg it" home from prayer-meeting as a sort of test as to whether their "old man of sin is crucified with Christ," or not. Such a robbery occurred last night across the street from the Presbyterian church. Howard Gates and family drove to prayer-meeting on a car that to all appearances was perfectly sound. But when they started home they found the stubborn old car just wouldn't go. Investigating, they found the battery had been stolen. Police say this is quite an unusual robbery, and
HERE COMES BRIDE,
ANAHEIM MELODY
nia management provided the theater stage during the show tomorrow night, so that astonished Anaheimers could witness the ceremony.
Now heres' a pretty part of the whole affair: Open hearted Anaheim merchants, who are noted far and wide for their generosity, are planning to present the happy couple with wearing apparel and jewelry. The Prince Store will give the bride her lovely wedding gown, shoes and hat, and these can be seen on display between now and the event. Arthur Cohen's Jewel Box presented the bride with a magnificent wedding ring, and it's a beauty too. Milady's Beauty and Corset Shop is giving the bride some wonderful hose and lingerie that would knock anybody's nicely.
Miss Arlyn Snelling, Anaheim girl who weds Hobo Songster.
"Here comes the bride—ta-ta-ta!"
That's to be the popular strain in Anaheim tomorrow night, the reason in the very unusual wedding scheduled on the stage of the California theater at 9 o'clock sharp, when James Gordon, tramp singer, an Anaheim discovered vocal genius, now showing at the above popular playhouse and Miss Arelyn Snelling, lovely titian-haired Anaheim malden are united in a nuptial knot by no less an authority in such knots than J. B. Cox, celebrated Santa Ana jurist.
And here's another rich item for Anaheimers: Officer Fox, who was going to "pinch" Gordon for singing on the streets last Friday afternoon, shortly after he arrived in this city, will act as the best man. Ye gods, was there ever such a wild time.
Of course everyone now is acquainted with how this troubador landed in town; was nearly arrested and how Jack Retlaw and G. T. Ingram, officials of the California theater-interceded and promised an engagement if released.
And of course the whole town is cognizant of the red hot romance generated a few hours later when Gordon met Miss Snelling, an employee of the Oyster Loaf cafe, was struck dumb with her beauty and personality and proposed right on the spot. And—WOW! She accepted him, right on the spot. Then of course the wedding arrangements were hastily made, and the Califorwhole affair: Open hearted Anaheim merchants, who are noted far and wide for their generosity, are planning to present the happy couple with wearing apparel and jewelry. Milady's Beauty and Corset Shop is giving the bride some wonderful hose and lingerie that would knock anybody's eye out.
After consultation, Messrs: Ingram and Retlaw of the theater decided to present the couple with $50 in cash, and also if there is a record crowd, Gordon will participate in the receipts.
The theater magnates, looking forward to a tremendous crowd are instilling extra chairs, and will be able to accommodate the largest throng in the history of the theater.
Jack Retlaw had been making great preparations for the ceremony. The stage will be beautifully decorated. The usherettes will be the flower girls, while Jessie Barnett will be one of the bridesmaids. DeWitt Reese will play the organ accompaniment.
The doors of the California theater will be thrown open to the waiting patrons at 6:30 o'clock tomorrow night and the first show starts promptly at 7:15 o'clock.
