GRAMMAR SCHOOL COACHES TO MEET Grammar School Notes W. C. Maxwell will represent Anaheim schools at a conference of athletic instructors for the grammar schools of the county Thursday, Sept. 21, at Santa Ana when a schedule will be arranged for sport activities. Contrary to custom, Orange grammar schools will not participate in the So. Cal. grammar school institute for teachers this year. At Fullerton, Oct. 18, 19 and 20 are the dates and the place for the county grammar school institute. There will be no public sessions over the county those days. W. C. Maxwell of Anaheim will have charge of the arithmetical section and Miss Nina Owen will have charge of the music section. The institute is a yearly event, but usually comes during the Xmas vacation. As a result of Probation Officer R. R. Miller's visit to Anaheim's Mexican colony, the enrollment at the Palm-et school this morning was 120. Friday the registration was 94. At the close of school last year there were 115 and on the first day only 17. Four teachers are in charge at that building. CONSTANTINOPLE, Sept. 19.—Mustapha Kenai's march toward the Dardanneller and Constantinople is reported to have started. The Turkish commander, according to these reports, is moving troops from Smyrna toward the Bosphorus, which lies between Constantinople and the Asian mainland, and the Dardanelles, where British are entrenched. There is no official verification of these rumors. DRIVE WEDNESDAY A. M. Wednesday will go down in Anaheim history if the men behind the Salvation Army drive for a fund of $1,500 carry out their plans. They expect to clean up in two hours, starting from the flagpole at Center and Los Angeles-sits at 9 o'clock Wednesday morning. There will be four organizations in the drive, including working squads from the Elks, Kiwanis, Rotary and Lion clubs, each composed of ten members of the respective clubs with whoever they desire to select as helpers. Each working squad will be captained, according to Chairman Fred A. Backs, of the executive committee in charge of the drive. "Every one working in this drive is a busy man," said Chairman Backs, "in urging the people to make quick response to the requests for funds. During and since the war, the Salvation Army has been called upon to assume many times more work among the sick, the unfortunate and the needy. The Salvation Army has always responded. The quota assigned to Anaheim is not large and I have every confidence that the people will respond readily and let the busy men who are putting over the drive get back to their offices or business after getting the required amount. It is our hope that our workers will have completed their work in two hours. A flying squadron will solicit in districts not easily within the scope of the four teams that will start from the flagpole.
